Windows 10: "Enhance your photo" in Photos still doesn't work

Summary: the Enhance Your Photo feature in Windows 10 isn't working. Effectively I have the same problem as described by the original poster of this thread.


I tried the suggestion made by Vijay Verma:

I have come to know for the first time that 1709 has also this problem for this version of Photos app. May be because everybody who has upgraded to 1803 were the ones who reported this.

You can try following and see whether it helps on 1709 didn't help on 1803

1. Run Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter
Type troubleshoot in Windows Start Search box > Click Troubleshoot > Scroll down to bottom and click Windows Store Apps > Click Run the Troubleshooter and follow on-screen directions.

2. Reset Photos App
Windows+X > Settings > Apps > Apps & Features > Locate Photos by Scrolling Down > Click Advanced Options > Click Reset
Go to Microsoft Store > Click 3 horizontal dots on top right > Downloads and Updates > Check if there is any update for this app > If yes, update it.

3. If Reset doesn't work, then you should uninstall using Powershell and reinstall the Photos App
Windows+X > Click Windows Powershell Admin > Copy the below command and right click in Powershell to paste it

get-appxpackage Microsoft.Windows.Photos remove-appxpackage

Now, you need to reinstall it
Use below Powershell command to install

Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.Windows.Photos Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$$_.InstallLocation\AppXManifest.xml”

None of the suggestions helped. Indeed, the instruction to reinstall Photos using PowerShell Admin didn't work; I had to search for Photos and download it through the Microsoft Store.


Of course, time has moved on since FredFred5's post and my version of Windows 10 Pro is now v1909.


Perhaps I'm being cynical, but you would have thought the issue with Photos "Enhance Your Photo" feature would have been fixed by now. As it doesn't appear to have been fixed automatically by the various updates published since this issue was discovered, I'm hoping there is someone who will stumble across this question who will have a working solution.

Windows 10 Photo App Enhance

Hello Jana,

To turn off the auto-enhance feature of the Photos app, follow these steps:

• Click Start and type Photos then hit
  Enter.
• On the lower left side panel, click Settings.
• Under Automatically enhance my photos, just move the slider to
  Off.

Photo's automatic enhancement

No, there isn't. But have you blocked updates to Photos? Automatic enhancement was discontinued a while back. The latest version requires you to enter Edit to make general enhancements. It works fine but some don't like the extra steps.
