Enlarge C storage on Nextbook tablet when it only has 32 GB?

I have a Nextbook Win 10 tablet that only has 32 gb storage and 28 gb is taken up by the OS. When trying to update Win 10 it wants to delete the os to make room. Have been trying to find an real easy way to expand things so I don't need to delete or move things around. Have a SD slot and it has two usb slots on the Nextbook. Anyone have a method that is easy? Someone must have found a simple way to overcome this problem.

    :)

  2. Creator's Update ?? for a tablet !

My Nextbook tablet only has 10 GB storage left, only a couple of added apps installed, & I use an SD card for pics, music etc. How many GB is the 1703 Creator's Update and can I decline it and only get necessary updates ? I have the update already on
my laptop but I DO NOT want it on my tablet.

  3. Upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10

I am planning to upgrade Dell Venue 8 Pro to Windows 10.

The tablet has a 32GB of storage space. I am concerned that Windows 10 will continue to use most of them as it is the case with Windows 8.1.

Another thing I do not understand is why Windows 8.1 says the capacity of 32 GB Dell Venue 8 Pro is only 23.1 GB once you check the C: Drive of the tablet?

Does it mean that a 32 GB Dell tablet is not big enough to support either Windows 8.1 or Windows 10?

    Best regards

    abs

Enlarge C storage on Nextbook tablet when it only has 32 GB?

Move your data files to an SD Card? Files under Documents, Pictures, Videos, Music, etc. On my Nextbook Tablet the base Windows 10 Professional install is occupying less than 7 GB, but I don't have hardly any other software installed and all my data files are stored on an SD Card.

I also suggest using Option Two here to do a thorough "disk" cleanup:
Open and Use Disk Cleanup in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Performance Maintenance Tutorials

    %SystemRoot%\System32\Cmd.exe /c Cleanmgr /sageset:65535 & Cleanmgr /sagerun:65535

Also, in the Command Prompt (Admin) you can make sure the OS is compacted by running:
    Compact.exe /CompactOS:always

If it isn't compacted already, that will gain you about 1GB.

Also, when doing major upgrades, I download the ISO file for the new build of Windows 10 to the SD Card. Then mount the ISO file and run setup.exe from the mounted file to do the upgrade.

Finally, disable Windows 10 fast startup and hibernation by running:
    powercfg -h off

By 'update' do you mean and upgrade to the next version? Like 1511 to 1607, or the Creators Update to come shortly?

If so, download the install media to a USB using the Media Creation Tool and run Setup from within Windows. Manually running the Setup from your own install media give flexible options for using external storage space. Amongst other things, I understand the windows.old folder will be stored on a USB. Microsoft says...

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...4-776be87af7df

It probably already is, but it's worth checking that you are running with your Windows system files compressed.
Compress or Uncompress Windows 10 with Compact OS

Delete all restore points, these can take up a lot of space and won't be applicable after an upgrade anyway.

An extended Disk Clean-up to clean system files and update files may help. Option Two here...
Open and Use Disk Cleanup in Windows 10

To clean up even more of the update store than Disk Clean-Up can touch, DISM has a ResetBase option, I described its use here...
How can I free up drive space
...and that thread has a lot of other useful tips.

Good point, not only does it mean (unlike the automatic windows update path) the install media is stored externally, but it also leaves the USB ports free for Setup to use as additional storage space.

You might, depending on installed memory, be able to temporarily run without a pagefile too. My system can run happily without one (4GB installed RAM).

Have done the Disk cleanup, but was not sure about the compacting. I had hoped that there was a very simple way of doing this as I am not in the pro-guru class. Purchased the Nextbook cheap with win 10 installed to learn win10 before I downloaded the free upgrade from MS on (this) my main desktop system many months back. Have been trying to keep it updated, but now have this storage space problem that is not an easy simple fix that I hoped it might be.

Enlarge C storage on Nextbook tablet when it only has 32 GB?

It won't be easy to stay within those limits. A Windows upgrade probably creates a second 450Gb Recovery partition, and Windows.old which is about as big as your existing Windows folder.

Download a film - say, 0.6-2.5Gb? Install any significant program- another few 100 Mb (which has to go somewhere). And almost any significant program uses working space in C:.

Then there's space for your browser's temporary files... and..and...

32Gb is really really small. My Windows partition stays around 50Gb used, with almost no personal data or installed programs in that partition, and that's without a Windows.old. (But there are files related to some of the many programs I have installed on D: )

The suggestions above are entirely sound.

I have a 10" Tablet/2-in1 with a 32GB main drive so I added a 64GB MicroSDHC memory card to get a D: drive for added storage. During updates I have had to point to that D: drive to get the updates. It seems to work best when downloading the offline update file to D: then installing that. I've moved most of my data [from Libraries to D:] which helps.

Can't find anything in the link you posted, nothing but ads in there. This is my Nextbook Tablet currently running Windows 10 32-Bit Professional Creator's Update:

I did the upgrade from Windows 10 Anniversary to Creator's Update. But, there are only a couple of small programs installed in addition to Windows.

Google - How to install a Windows 10 update when you don't have enough free space - then look for the Windowscentral link. I did know how to copy it for post above, a copy and paste didn't work.
My Nextbook is only win 10 home, yours is top end.
