  1. Enlarge Gparted Partition?

    Hey,

I have a Linux partition and an empty partition on one hard disk. Now I want to enlarge the Linux partition. But that does not work.

If I right-click on the Linux partition and go to "Resize/Move", it says "Minimum size: 67733 MiB" and "Maximum size: 67733 MiB". So I cannot enlarge them.

Does anyone know how I can do this?

Here again a picture for better understanding.

Under the Linux partition was the Windows recovery partition. I deleted this one too. But here I could enlarge the Linux partition. Why does this not work with the 399 GiB partition?

    Thanks in advance.

    :)

How can I enlarge the EFI partition on a dual boot-system with Windows and Linux?

I intend to install Windows and Linux on my system which is booted in UEFI-mode.

For Linux, I intend to do the following things:

    • install the LTS kernel and whatever current version the mainline brings with it
    • use systemd-boot

So ultimately, the default size (100 MB) of the EFI partition, which is created during the installation of Windows gets pretty crowded (roughly 94 MB get used). Hence I'd like to enlarge said partition. As as the standard recommendation for disk layouts puts that MSR partition right after the EFI partition, I deleted the MSR partition. Then Win 10 did not start and the boot repair program from the Win 10 USB drive was able to repair the boot problems.

But the core problem is that I cannot enlarge the EFI partition, either with diskpart or with GParted (on a Xubuntu 16.04.1 USB drive). When I run extend size=100 in diskpart, it says:

    GParted throws the error

Does anyone know of the necessary steps or an arguably "simple" sequence thereof to enlarge the EFI partition?

    W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

    - press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
    - diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
    - list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
    - select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
    - clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
    - create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
    - exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
    - click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that
