Windows 10: Enter Network Credentials - sharing files on a home network

I have two PC, one running windows 11, the other w10.I am signed into both machinesI have all the network sharing options turned on in bothIn the W10 I can see in file explorer the w11 machineIn the W11 I can see in file explorer the w10 machineWhen i click to connect it asks me to input a login. I have tried my credentials that are used to sign in as the account on the machine and it tells me my username or password aren't correct.Help!

Asking to enter network credentials when access files on network

I understand that after an update, you get a prompt to enter network credentials to access files over network. I’ll certainly help you with the issue.



Ideally, if you have never used credentials to access files over network, you may want to check the network settings and see if Password protected sharing is turned off. To do this, refer the steps mentioned below:

1. Go to control panel > Click on
   network and internet > Click on network and sharing.
   
2. Click on Change advance sharing settings
   on the left pane.
   
3. Turn off password protected sharing.
   
4. Click on Save changes

Problem sharing files and Network Credentials error

Hi, networking in Win 10 is frustrating to set up and requires multiple steps- you are far from alone in reporting issues. Indeed, even when it is correctly configured people have found it needs 'help' so when you boot up or resume a PC, networking is re-established in a reasonable time.

The comments following may help you assess some of the issues you've encountered.

Note you can back up and restore shares and permissions, but I've not seen a way to reset them:

It may be. As you might guess, it means the link is broken/not valid/temporarily not available.

This will be how you created your mapped drive:
Map Network Drive in Windows 10
(I find the title confusing, as it's really mapping a networked folder...)
Z: simply points to a folder on another PC on your network. The x will disappear when networking is established.

Password/credentials expired: a search for

I understand your concern and will assist you to resolve this issue.

I suggest you to turn off the protection and try, follow the steps below and check, if it helps:

• Go to system tray and click on network and sharing.
• Select change advanced sharing settings at the left top of the screen.
• At the bottom select All network.
• Select password protected sharing.
• Turn off password protected sharing.

Method 2: Run Troubleshooter

• Press Windows key and type Network and sharing center
• Click on troubleshoot problems
• Run all the troubleshooter and check if it helps.
