Windows 10: Error 0x80004005

Hello. I have a game installed on my laptop, and I accidentally deleted some of the game files. So I decided to reinstall it, and copy and paste the necessary files to save my game data. The files that were deleted were related to launching the game. However, when I try to copy and paste it, get this error code:

How do I fix the error?

I don't know what category this would fall under so I put it in gaming on windows 10.

I have looked over many other posts about this, all with the same error code, but with a different problem.

I have a computer thats a few years old, it has an ABIT kn8-sli motherboard, and its running off windows XP.

I was having problem with the hard drive before I gave up on it awhile back, and now I have come back and resolved that problem, but now when I get to the login screen and type in the password it says its in need of an update, then when it asks me if I want to update I click Yes, and then it says it won't work due to error 0x80004005.

The only operating system I have currently is windows 7. Do I need to go buy a new OS or is this recoverable?
