    Hi,Recently reinstalled windows after performance drops. Am currently at window version 1607. Im using the update assistant as the automatic updater runs into another error as well I forgot which. Have tried troubleshooter and it always comes back with a diagnosis of corruption in the service registration no matter how many times I run it. Also tried sfc scan and didnt work. Updated BIOS and didnt work. Tried Resetting the Software Distribution folder but some processes wouldn't stop and I'm not a tech guy so I don't know what to temper with there. Did I miss any solution to this? Im nearly

    I have looked over many other posts about this, all with the same error code, but with a different problem.

    I have a computer thats a few years old, it has an ABIT kn8-sli motherboard, and its running off windows XP.

    I was having problem with the hard drive before I gave up on it awhile back, and now I have come back and resolved that problem, but now when I get to the login screen and type in the password it says its in need of an update, then when it asks me if I want to update I click Yes, and then it says it won't work due to error 0x80004005.

    The only operating system I have currently is windows 7. Do I need to go buy a new OS or is this recoverable?
