Windows 10: Error 0x80071160 installing September 2023 update KB5030211

I have tried 3 times to install this update. Other September updates have been installed successfully.

Improvements

This security update includes improvements that were a part of update KB5029351 (released August 22, 2023). When you install this KB:

• This update addresses an issue that affects authentication. Using a smart card to join or rejoin a computer to an Active Directory domain might fail. This occurs after you install Windows updates dated October 2022 or later. For more details, see KB5020276.

September 12, 2023—KB5030217 (OS Build 22000.2416) - Microsoft Support

This security update includes improvements that were a part of update KB5029332 (released August 22, 2023). When you install this KB:

IMPORTANT Some versions of Windows 11, version 21H2 will reach end of service on October 10, 2023. These are Home, Pro, Pro Education, and Pro for Workstation. After October 10, 2023, these devices will not receive monthly security and quality updates. These updates contain protections from the latest security threats.

We will continue to support the remaining editions of Windows 11, version 21H2.

Error 0x80071160 with Cumulative Update

Hi all, I have a Dell G5 5587 machine with Windows 10 home version 21H1, OS build 19043.1266. 64 bit OS. All my drivers and firmware are up-to date.

I am quite frustrated since more than a month with regards to the cumulative update . The update takes 6 to 8h+ to download and install. At some point in time, the installation fails and I get an error 0x80071160. The laptop has become unusable since it has become extremely sluggish and unresponsive. A click takes a few seconds to a few minutes to process. Once it fails, I restart the machine and it takes 1h to boot.

I have scoured the web for this problem which brought me to this community. Browsing through the community where other users have mentioned the same problem, since almost ALL of these threads are locked for commenting, I don't know if these solutions worked for other users - or in fact, did anything ever work for them. (I am not complaining about the locking by the way)

Because of the in-depth solution, two threads stand out for me

Based on these 2 locked threads, I followed the solutions so kindly provided by the helpful, respective independent advisors.

In her reply in thread 1, Ms. Erum mentioned to visit this website: Fix Windows 10 Update Error 0x80071160 - Best Tweaks & Tricks which I did.

1. Windows Update Troubleshooter:- no errors found.
   
2. Clear Software Distribution Folder and do the other steps:- done. Still the same error.
   
3. Manually Download and Install the Windows Update:- Did that. Same error. The download completes but the installation wont - I simply get an error that the installation failed. (This advice was provided by Mr. J. DeV from Thread 2)
   

I cam across this thread (Redirecting) and LillianBurst in her reply, mentions to follow this link Redirecting which is in Spanish.

If any mods, admin, or user has a question, feel free to ask me - I'll do my best to respond but it will take me time as the machine is too slow to be used.

So I am lost. please Help me. Thank you.

 

Error code 0x80073712

From admin Command Prompt, please run the following commands:

dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

and

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Then, install the KB5030211 update using the offline installer below.
