Windows 10: Error 0xc000014c can't reboot anything

I have tried the following to recover from this problem:

1) Acronis 2016 true image rescue disc

2) Easeustodo v9.2 rescue disc

3) Windows 10 generated rescue disc

4) Windows installation from CD via an widows.iso file

Option 4 tried the hardest to boot with a long period of disc read before failing.

Sorry can’t include a debug log since cant get it to boot

Background (hopefully helpful)

Windows 10 was installed on this laptop in August 2015. Major problems with 100% disc utilization.(see note on 100% disk utilization at bottom)

After 2-3 months of frustration a clean install of Windows 10 solved problem

9 months later July 2016

Windows was up dated to version 10586.494 .

I was suddenly confronted with 100% disc utilization again (not sure how long after update)
I suspected antivirus since it was implicated in the original problem a year ago but never confirmed.

I did a full disc recovery using ACRONIS and brought back 10586.318 all seemed well.

I also changed to Panda antivirus from Avast and all seemed ok for a week or two.

I updated again to 10586.494

I started testing out EASEUSTODO v9.2 backup for a friend. It failed during backup with a system freeze (behaving like the disk utilization problem)

Thereafter continued reboots resulted in disk utilization problem.

I decided to try a recovery and now go back to top of page.

NOTE disk utilization problem results in a system freeze with windows not responding error. Using taskmanager the problem shows high cpu and disk activity, the disk activity quickly rising to 100% with i/o dropping to 0-.1Mb/sec, with low cpu useage.

error code 0xc000014c- Computer crash

My laptop crashed with an error code 0xc000014c. Bestbuy told me it was caused by windows update. They wanted $150 to fix. Is there anything I can do myself?

Getting Windows 10 error code 0xc000014c with boot file error message

Help my pc is saying that the boot file is damaged error code 0xc000014c

I know that some people have already asked this but ive looked through everything and nothing works for me because to access your BIOS setup you need to have a minimum boot but on my pc it doesent even do that, I've hit every function key possible and NONE
do ANYTHING and on every fix it is required for you to access you BIOS so please help

 

I read through you post but I'm not sure what the problem is now. Is it that you can't boot anything, OS, CD, DVD or flash drive or ?????

When you said I decided to try a recovery and now go back to top of page, what recovery? Was that by restoring from a Acronis backup again?

 

Sorry if I was not clear...... When I try to boot anything I get the error.... IE: the SSD system disk, or any DVD that has those recovery items on it that I mentioned.

 

How is your BIOS Boot menu setup? Check the manual here: Boot - Acer ASPIRE 5251 Service Manual [Page 41]

I also found in the Users manual that you can enable the F12 boot menu key that you can then use to select the device to boot from at boot time. Apparently it's disabled by default. It talks about Vista but that doesn't matter as BIOS Setup doesn't care what OS, if any, is installed.

 

I selected to enable f12 as suggested

only the main ssd drive, the IDE1: DVD , and the Network boot show up

the options USB HDD:
USB FDD:
USB CD/DVD ROM: do not show up on the F12 menu
The USB HDD: option I placed first through the main menu, shows "No operating system found" on the usb I thought was bootable.

Mean while I tried to create a USB recovery flash from my desktop. The recovery option does not find the inserted USB stick instead only finds a USB3 connected hard drive. Disconnecting the hard drive and nothing is recognized as available to create recovery

 

The flash drive has to be plugged in for it to show up at that point.
Plug it in then restart or power on.

 

The flash drive was plugged in .....explorer can see it but the "create recovery disk" doesn't see it

Rebooting with the USB inserted makes no difference.

The USB stick is 32GB and formated NTFS with default block size.

 

With the flash drive plugged in, boot to BIOS Setup. Does it show there?

 

Yes it does show there as a generic USB.

I also tried another USB stick which contains a bootable UBUNTU OS... I reformated this USB stick it only has a 4GB capacity so I tried a create recovery disk without system files. Again the USB stick is not recognized by the Create recovery disk program.(CRD)

I have read that a device must be shown as removable before the CRD will see it. Windows 10 doesn't seem to show anything as removable ?

Can you create a DVD instead and use that?

 

Judging from the reply, I think we got off the track, just to recap.
Original problem:
1) Laptop wont boot from SSD, or 4 different rescue scenario DVDS error 0xc000014c
2) You suggested a bootable USB
3) Could not create a bootable USB on my desktop

The puzzle deepens......
I am able to boot UBUNTU from a 4GB USB stick on the laptop
Interestingly Ubuntu shows only 2Gb of memory , when there should be 4 Gb
I will look at the memory, but windows should boot with 2Gb I believe


More info:

I was able to create a bootable windows usb stick using Win32diskmanager.exe.

When I tried to boot it on thelaptop I got the same error.

Now I am going to try and create an ACRONIS bootable usb stick

 

Kyhi has a nice rescue system, see if you can create a flash drive from it that will work.

I suggest you use Rufus to create the flash drive.
