Windows 10: Error 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 when upgrading Win 7 pro on a Lenovo E540

Hello,

I've a laptop Lenovo E540 which is currently setup with dual boot Windows 7 professional and Debian Linux. I'm using there only Linux, I've just activated Windows when I bought the machine last year and never used it again. I decided to upgrade it to Windows 10 as I would like to be able to test web designs with Edge. So I first ran a full windows upgrade, downloaded the Media Creation Tool, ran it and after downloading and restart I got back to Win 7 with the infamous error 0xC1900101 - 0x20017.

I've tried it countless amount of times, updated the bios, disabled every device not needed (including bluetooth, wi-fi, fingerprint reader, audio), tried keeping files and applications and not keeping anything, tried running the tool as administrator but the result is always the same.

Error 0xC1900101-0x20017 while upgrading to Windows 10

Hi all,

I'm trying to upgrade my laptop from Win 7 Ultimate x86 to Win 10 Pro. I've downloaded the ISO file and burned to a DVD. Unfortunatelly during the installation it appears a BSOD that says to look for an error PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA, then a screen reports
the error 0xC1900101-0x20017 (it also says that the installation has failed in SAFE_OS during the operation of BOOT).

How can I fix this?

Win 10 installation fails

The installation failed in the SAFE-OS phase with an error during BOOT operation

0xC1900101 - 0x20017

This is what I get whether I upgrade directly from MS site or the disc that copied using MediaCreation Tool. My OS is Win 8 Pro.
