    Error 10016 in Event Viewer

I have a ton of these errors showing in event viewer, I'm really not sure
what I need to do to correct this and was hoping somebody here could guide
me through the process especially if I need to change something in
    the registry...

The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {53362C64-A296-4F2D-A2F8-FD984D08340B} and APPID {53362C64-A296-4F2D-A2F8-FD984D08340B} to the user DESKTOP-404MT0J\skeet SID (S-1-5-21-3762064208-2474414701-3062572976-1001) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (S-1-15-2-1430448594-2639229838-973813799-439329657-1197984847-4069167804-1277922394).

    Source: DistributedCOM
    Event ID: 10016

CLSID and APPID reference RemoteProxyFactory32 Class

    Thanks!

  2. Event viewer error 10016

    Hi Eve,

For us to narrow down your concern for getting the event viewer error 10016, we would like to know the following:

    • Were there any changes made on your computer prior to the issue (i.e., updates, software installation)?
    • Is this the first time you experienced the issue?
    • When did the issue first begin?

We look forward to your response.

    Event viewer error 10016

    Hi,

I've tried everything to try and resolve multiple errors relating to com server. I can't alter the permissions within the component services/DCOM config. I've tried everything logging in with the default built in administrator account and making sure my
user account has permissions at the computer level. That didn't work. Then tried booting in safe mode and tried to change the permissions but that didn't work. Every time I would go to the permissions tab for the CLSID hex value everything was grayed out.
The same happened when I tried to change permissions in the registry. I'm at a loss! Does anyone have a clue why this is impossible to change?

    Thanks so much.

I had a look at that thread and apparently I didn't so something right, was wondering
if somebody could walk me thru what I need to do to correct this...still have a ton
    of errors in event viewer

The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
    {53362C64-A296-4F2D-A2F8-FD984D08340B} and APPID {53362C64-A296-4F2D-A2F8-FD984D08340B}
to the user DESKTOP-404MT0J\skeet SID (S-1-5-21-3762064208-2474414701-3062572976-1001)
from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable
    SID (S-1-15-2-1430448594-2639229838-973813799-439329657-1197984847-4069167804-1277922394).
This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool

    Thanks!

it seems another SID (user) is attempting to run the app through the local host connection on the machine itself.
the app is not configured to execute on the local machine.
the app is configured to be launched over the network on other computers but not over the local host (127.0.0.1) on the machine itself.
the underlying question is what app in the COM server is attempting to execute and why.

    google doesnt really help either.
ill take a look through my machine and see what i come up with.
i too have a similar error, though i have investigated and found the cause, i have not gotten around to fixing it (lazy)
the app id {53362C64-A296-4F2D-A2F8-FD984D08340B} refers to > https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/lib...(v=vs.85).aspx
i will edit the post as i gain progress.
run > dcomcnfg.exe > double click "component services" > double click "computers" > right click "my computer" & select "properties" > click "com security" > click "edit default" for "launch and activation permissions" > click "add" > click "advanced" > click "find now" > locate name "skeet", click it and then click "ok" > click "ok" again > place a check mark for "allow" in each of the following: "local launch", "remote launch", "local activation" and "remote activation" > click "ok" > click "ok" again and then clock component services
i hope the above direction is not too difficult, basically, you are giving "skeet" full permissions to launch all apps under DCOM+
this may not actually be the best idea in the event a rogue program gets on your PC and launches itself under the user account "skeet" but either way, you would have additional problems and issues to worry about if a rogue program did get on your PC anyway
the possible fix above may or may not work for you (it did not resolve a similar error i am still experiencing)

PERFECT !! Thank you so much Elite...I have been around this bend before
and your instructions are to the T...I know exactly how to proceed now, I'm not
quite sure until I get into DCOM, but I think I gave administrators full permissions
and not skeet, which could be why I'm still getting these errors. Going to follow
your instructions for user acct skeet now.

Appreciate your time and help ~

Well I didn't show anything listed for user skeet or anything else
for skeet so I just added user acct and applied full permissions
so time will tell if that works. If not, I will go back and apply
Everyone full permissions and see what that does

    Thanks again Elite

    Hi,

No need to check the "Remote" stuff though.
You need to add yourself in DCOM and grant yourself local rights.
Once done, in regedit you'll need to return ownership to whatever it was before.

It usually is quite straightforward once you get the hang of it really.

    Cheers, *Wink
