Windows 10: Error adding Google account to Windows 10 Mail App

I previously had this account set up in the Windows 10 Mail App but it stopped working once I changed my Google's account logging process to 2-step authentication. I tried deleting the account and adding it again, but when I try this, as soon as I select the type of account to be Google, an error message pops up:


Something went wrong

We're sorry, but we were unable to do that.


Error code: 0x8007042b.


Any help to set up the account again will be very much appreciated.

I went this route and added passwords for yahoo mail. I might try this method above to get gmail to buck up! *Tongue

YAHOO MAIL FIX
2FA needs to be enabled which it already was and just follow these steps below.

1. In yahoo mails account security, click on manage app passwords.




2. After selecting other app and entering the new app name in the text box




3. Now, in Windows 10 mail app, add this type of account.




4. In Windows 10 mail app, enter your details and the password generated by step 2.




Fully functional mail app again.



GMAIL FIX

Now similar steps to setting up Gmail. Here I'll only go through the Gmail steps as Windows Mail App setup is the exact same.

Yes, once 2-factor authentication is enabled you should then create the app specific password & enter it instead of the account password.

 

Google account (mail / calendar) not syncing in Windows 10

First confirm if you have two step authentication in you Google account.
If YES follow these steps:

To have the Windows Mail app to work you have to generate a password for the Windows Mail app in your Google account at https://security.google.com/settings/security/apppasswords
Copy/paste this password into the password field of your Gmail account in the Mail app Settings/Accounts/Gmail
This needs to be done only once.

Also check in Windows 10 Settings/Privacy if you have in Contacts AND Calender the Mail and Agenda allowed access ON
If both are OFF the Mail app won't sync without throwing any error!!
Just one off the many bugs in Mail app!
