Windows 10: Error appears when extending the volume in external hard disk

Hi,

I'm using my old laptop hard disk as external portable harddisk.

I'm trying to extend volume of 2 partitions 1 is around 99GB, 2 is 59GB which already have a pre allocated space in it.

When I try to extend any of these voulmes, I see some prompt saying this operation will convert the selected basic disks to dynamic disks...... and I selected yes.

After selecting YES, I see an error saying "The operation is not supported by the object" and I cant do any other process.


Please help me on this

I suggest you to follow the exact steps mentioned below and check if you are able to perform the action.

• 
  Run Disk Management. Open Run Command (Windows button +R) a dialog box will open and type "diskmgmt.msc".
  
• 
  In the Disk Management screen, just right-click on the partition that you want to shrink, and select “Extend Volume” from the menu
  
• 
  Locate your system partition — that’s probably the C: partition. Right-click on it and select “Shrink Volume.” If you have multiple partitions on your hard drive, you could also choose to resize a different partition to free up
  space.

External Hard disk contents are not visible.

For us to narrow down your concern with your external hard disk, we would like to know the following:

• Were there any changes made on your computer prior to the issue (e.g., updates, software installation)?
• To make sure that we have not missed on anything, what troubleshooting steps have you done so far?
• Do you hear any clicking sound when connecting your hard disk?

3rd master hard disk error

Ugh, i just got that on my dads pc, he was ripping a dvd to his external hdd to play off the ps3, when we rebooted it he got a 3rd master hard disk error.

Anybody got any suggestions?

I reset the cmos for about 5 minutes thinking thats all i needed to do, but that didn't happen.
