Windows 10: Error Code 1-8 in Windows Mixed Reality WMR on HP Reverb G2 VR Headset

Greetings, <Background> I use VR quite often and bought a Reverb G2 about a year ago. Though in December of last year, it burned out and I was sent a replacement strangely passed off as my original headset the serial numbers differed. Regardless, it mostly has worked, though I've had many scares that required numerous wire pluggings or pc reboots but it never directly died. A little over 24 hours ago I had to do some plugging again but I was able to play VR for many hours. Though during it I experienced a consistent tracking loss that rocked my viewpoint. Has anyone found a solution for HP Reverb G2 not working on Windows 11 with Windows Mixed Reality?

I purchased a brand new HP Reverb G2 VR headset for the kids for Christmas. I have a near new gaming computer which never has any problems.

The processor is a 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-11700K @ 3.60GHz 3.60 GHz. The display adaptor is an NVIDIA GForce RTX 3060. Machine has a 4TB HDD and 64GB RAM.

I have installed the headset and it seems to be recognised in the device list BUT WMR (Windows Mixed Reality) refuses to complete installation. It gets to 6% and then says "couldn't install Windows Mixed Reality".

I have attempted EVERYTHING suggested on all forums I could find. I eventually had an HP tech log in and remote control my system in an attempt to get it going. The tech basically did everything I had already done and still no joy. HP have referred me back to Microsoft.

I have found on most forums that any user with a native Windows 11 install has the same issue as me and no solution. If you have an upgraded version of Windows then it seems people who can revert to a Windows 10 install can install the headset and then re-install Windows 11 with no problems so this appears to be a Windows 11 issue.

Any suggestions?

 

HP Reverb VR headset shows black screen, but still tracks

Hi,

I have a HP Reverb VR headset. It works fine on another computer, but on this new computer the VR screen shows black constantly, even though it tracks fine in the portal and can detect the controllers. Mixed Reality Portal setup said I have the right specs
on this computer. I tried plugging the DisplayPort and USB into all the different ports.

Specs:

Windows 10 Enterprise version 1809, 64-bit

Intel Xeon CPU E5-2667 v3 @ 3.20GHz 3.20GHz (2 processors)

256GB RAM

NVIDIA GeForce GTX Titan X

Device Manager:

Shows Mixed Reality devices -> HP Reverb VR Headset VR1000-2xxx, driver version 10.0.18362.1162

Shows Monitors -> Mixed Reality headset, driver version 10.0.18362.1162

Can you help?

WMR HP Reverb G2 with Hybrid Graphics System

This is concerning WMR with the HP Reverb G2.

For anyone who is familiar with this situation:

I have tested the HMD with an MSI laptop equipped with i9/RTX 3070/32 gig using the Thunderbolt 4 port and a USB -C to DisplayPort adapter.

The right eye lens is displaying correctly however the left eye lens is scrambled with black and white vertical lines.

The Thunderbolt 4 port on this machine is *not* wired directly to the Nvidia GPU, but to the iGPU. MSI reports that the hybrid system will offload to the dGPU and receive complete frames at the Intel iGPU end. but it is still an Intel UHD GPU at the DisplayPort end.

Microsoft seems to imply that hybrid graphics as well as the Surface products are supported in the minimum required specs: Windows Mixed Reality PC compatibility guidelines - Enthusiast Guide | Microsoft Docs.

The system also has an HDMI 2.1 port directly wired directly to the RTX 3070. I've also attempted to make use of this connection with an active HDMI 2.0 -> DP adapter, however the WMR portal reports that the cable is not connected in this case.

Interesting, I tested an Oculus Rift S on the HDMI -> DP adapter and it worked as expected. Conversely, if attempting to use the Rift S with the Thunderbolt port, it will not turn on at all, whereas the HP reverb G2 displays one eye lens correctly, but the other is scrambled.

Appreciate anyone's advice who is familiar with WMR and if this is a driver/software issue or moreso a hardware issue that cannot be overcome with the hybrid graphics config or use of an HDM adapter.
