Windows 10: Error code 56 in Device Manager - No work arounds working.. please help!!

I bought a new wifi adapter for my desktop yesterday and all I'm getting under Device Manager is the little yellow triangle with the exclamation mark, and Device status of "Windows is still setting up the class configuration for this device. (Code 56)". I did originally install from the cd it came with and then try and update the drivers with the latest from the manufacturer's website, but for some reason the update won't stick.

Network connections is also only showing the Local Area Connection as the only option, so really not recognising the wifi as an adapter. Yet under network it can see it and other devices that are on the wifi?

I've been searching various forums for workarounds and fixes, but most seem to have to do with uninstalling VPNs, which I don't have.. I did uninstall Opera because it had a built in one just in case but no change. I had uninstalled a couple of Windows updates, with no change, now I've moved everything out closer to the modem so I could connect via ethernet and have re-updated in case the latest one had a fix but no luck.

Please help!!! Really at my wit's end!!

Hmm. Either it's put out errors and WCG is limiting the work units available, or the project list may not be set to supply other WU when one runs out. (if the problem lies here and not on your end)

On the options to your left, if you go into Results Status, select the computer from Device Name and then look through results see if either they were returned late, errors or any other kind of issue that would stop the servers supplying WU from that perspective.

If there are no errors then it's maybe down to your project list. So selecting Device Manager from the left menu and then clicking on the profile assigned to that computer and make sure that it's assigned to receive WU for other projects if they run out.

At least those steps will rule out problems from the WCG end.

  Right click on Start Menu
  

Check if you are able to see device manger in the pop up menu.
