Kali Linux ISO will not delete from Downloads folder

Hello,

For clarification, I am running Windows 11 Home on an Acer Nitro 5 laptop. I have 15.8Gb of usable memory and a 2688 MHz Intel i5 processor.

Recently, my Windows Defender software detected multiple false positive malware reports from a Kali Linux ISO I downloaded around a year ago. In possibly related news, Task Manager shows me that "Antimalware Service Executable" is constantly taking up (on average) 30% of my CPU power and 10% of my memory.

This has recently made my computer very hard to work with since I run multiple high-resource programs such as games and IDE's, and the Antimalware Service Executable can be a huge interference with how these programs run. I know this is a false positive because, for every report, the file path directs me to the Kali Linux Disk Image, and because I downloaded MalwareBytes and it was unable to detect the Disk Images contents as a threat.

I have tried to "Start Actions" against the false positives, which always makes the reports disappear, and when I close and re-open Defender, they are there again. Note that every time I press "Start Actions", the scanner tells me "0 threat(s) found".

I have also tried turning off Real-Time protection (in case Defender was somehow locking access to the Disk Image File) and attempted to delete the ISO through File Explorer, 7-ZIP, Command Prompt, and Windows PowerShell (both ISE and normal), with no avail. Every time I have tried to delete the file, the progress bar shows up, but it does not do anything, just constantly loads (I would show an image but for some reason it wont let me post an image with the forum). I have tried to let it run for hours on end, but the progress pop-up still says "Discovered 0 items (0 bytes)". However, every time I exit the progress pop-up, it displays the file size for a brief second before the program closes. Whenever I have tried deleting it from cmd or powershell, the cursor only blinks back at me with nothing happening until I stop the command (this is after I turned of real-time protection and ran the programs as an admin).

Other details that someone might need:

• The Kali Linux ISO file is the 2022.4 version. I used it for a Virtual Machine. I downloaded it from the official www.kali.org website.
  
• I have downloaded other Kali Linux ISO's since then, but Windows has not detected them as a threat.
  
• My system is fully up-to-date (I checked while writing this).
  
• The Kali Linux ISO in question is not Read-Only, as seen in its property menu. The property menu also says that I have full access to it.
  

This has been a very frustrating experience, and I would appreciate a solution to my probelm. If you need other details to help provide me with a solution, please let me know.

You need to make the ISO file bootable. Copying to the USB drive is not enough.

Copy the ISO file to your local drive in Kali Linux.

Download Unetbootin and use it to make a bootable copy as described in the following article:
