Windows 10: Error - ffmpeg.dll was not found

I am running Windows 10 and get the following error when trying to install Whatsapp desktop : "The code execution cannot proceed because ffmpeg.dll was not found. reinstalling the program may fix this problem." I have tried using different browsers, and running sfc/scannow via Command Prompt Admin with the same result. Thank you in advance!

D3dx9_30.dll Not Found error in Ashes Cricket 2009

Important Note: Do not, under any circumstances, download the d3dx9_30.dll DLL file individually from any "DLL download site." There are a number of different reasons that downloading DLLs from these sites are never a good idea.

Note: If you've already downloaded d3dx9_30.dll from one of those DLL download sites, remove it from wherever you put it and continue with the following steps.

1. Restart your computer if you haven't yet done so.

The d3dx9_30.dll error might be a fluke or one-time issue and a simple restart could clear it up completely. It's unlikely this will fix the problem, but restarting is always a good first troubleshooting step.

2. Install the latest version of Microsoft DirectX 9. Chances are, upgrading to the latest version of DirectX 9 will fix the d3dx9_30.dll not found error.

Note: Microsoft often releases updates to DirectX 9 without updating the version number or letter so be sure to install the latest release even if your version is technically the same.

Note: Are you a Windows Vista user with DirectX 10? Your game or program may still need DirectX 9 files to run properly so give the installation a try. Don't worry, both versions of DirectX can be run side by side in Windows Vista.

3. Assuming the latest DirectX version from Microsoft doesn't fix the d3dx9_30.dll error you're receiving, look for a DirectX installation program on your game or application CD or DVD. Usually, if a game or other program utilizes DirectX, the software developers will include a copy of DirectX on the installation disc.

Sometimes, though not often, the DirectX version included on the disc is a better fit for the program than the latest version available online.

4. Uninstall the game or software program and then reinstall it again. Something may have happened to the files in the program that work with d3dx9_30.dll and a reinstall could do the trick.

5. Restore the d3dx9_30.dll file from the DirectX 9 software package. If the above troubleshooting steps haven't worked to solve your d3dx9_30.dll error, try extracting the d3dx9_30.dll individually from the DirectX 9 package.

6. Update the drivers for your video card. While it's not the most common solution, in some situations updating the drivers for the video card in your computer could correct this DirectX issue.

DLL Missing

I actually posted the link for the "list of troubleshooting steps to resolve your boost_threads.dll problems" which is located half way down the page. I did not mean to promote any downloads.

The problem is, that the required DLL is not actually even listed there.
There are just dozens of download adware links from the top to the bottom.

Using FFmpeg in Windows Applications
It is important to Microsoft that developers can leverage open-source software when building apps for Windows. As part of this effort we’re very pleased to announce FFmpeg support for Window 8.1, Windows Phone 8.1, and Windows 10 applications.

What is FFmpeg?
FFmpeg is a free, open-source multimedia framework that includes a set of tools which can be used by end users for transcoding, streaming, and playing, as well as a set of libraries for developers to use in applications. These libraries are valuable to developers as they add support for virtually all media formats including .mkv, .flv, and .mov. Projects that use FFmpeg libraries include Google Chrome, VLC, and many more.

What’s new?
We have released a set of Compilation Instructions for a WinRT compatible build of FFmpeg. Typically, after including FFmpeg libraries, developers have to go through the costly effort of rendering audio and video frames themselves. To solve this issue, we have released an open-source project, FFmpegInterop library for Windows. This project includes the FFmpegInterop WinRT component which processes media with FFmpeg and then leverages the Windows Media Framework for playback. This approach works well because the Windows Media Framework automatically renders and synchronizes media samples while reaping the benefits of hardware acceleration.

To demonstrate this we have also included three sample Media Player applications in C#, C++, and JavaScript.

Compilation Instructions
In order to leverage the powerful and diverse multimedia features of FFmpeg, we have contributed a set of compilation instructions for Windows 8.1, Windows Phone 8.1, and Windows 10 applications. After following the compilation instructions, developers can include FFmpeg libraries in their applications, enabling apps to play or stream almost any video format.

FFmpegInterop Object
FFmpegInterop is a WindowsRuntime Component that produces a MediaStreamSource which can be assigned to a XAML MediaElement or HTML5 video component for playback of any media file format supported by FFmpeg. This FFmpegInterop component can be used as a template to utilize further functionality of the FFmpeg libraries. Moreover the FFmpegInterop object can be accessed by multiple programming languages including C#, CX/C++, and JavaScript.

Media Player Application Samples
Also included with the FFmpegInterop library for Windows are sample Media Player applications in C#, C++, and JavaScript for Windows 8.1, Windows Phone 8.1, and Windows 10. They demonstrate how to achieve the following:

Create a FFmpegInterop object that plugs easily into a XAML MediaElement or WinJS HTML5 Video component

Open a local file using FileOpenPicker and pass it as a stream to FFmpegInterop

Project the API to the different Windows Runtime languages (CX/C++, C#, and JavaScript)

Example: Using the FFmpeg MediaStreamSource Object in a XAML Media Element.
