Windows 10: Error in explorer.exe

I'm not sure where to post this - so please move as necessary.

I received the error message in the screen shot when shutting down Win 10 (build 10130). There where two operations I did, one of which may be the cause of the error.
First I was renaming two files (in explore>right click>rename). The first went fine. The second file was renamed but would not complete. System froze and had to use Task Manager to end process.
The second thing I did was to rename the Computer. This worked fine, but the old computer name was still showing the network tree. I clicked on it and the discovery started but after a few seconds failed. Win10 seemed to be stuck at this point but eventually returned to normal.

Can use the computer as long as I don't click on OK to terminate the program explorer.exe Continuous loop of reboots and crash if I click on OK to terminate the program explorer.exe

explorer.exe - Application Error

The instruction at 0x00007FFCA441B600 referenced memory at 0x000000000563B020. The required data was not placed into memory because of an I/O error status of 0xc000009c.

Click on OK to terminate the program

 

That's a known error in build 10130.. MS has received some feed back on that.

You're very welcome.. there has been discussions about this issue here and so far it's an issue that MS has to resolve.

 

There were fixes posted (do a google search) for older OS'. I tried some of those in my Win 10 installation but couldn't find the DDE entry. It only happens on shutdown. If I do a restart its OK.

 

I've tried them and it's hit or miss. The problem is in the code and there really is no "tweak" that will fix this. MS has to on their end.

Just curious, what browsers are installed on your computer?

 

Only what came with Win10 (clean install).
I use the IE11 browser 99% but Spartan is also functional on this machine.

 

Yep, it's a known bug.

Three things that have been suggested as workwarounds:
1) Press the OK button and continue with the restart
2) Use the WinX menu (right click Windows Logo on Taskbar) and select a power option from Shutdown or signout
3) create a shortcut to the shudown.exe and place it on your taskbar
shortcut targets:
a) restart - %windir%\System32\shutdown.exe /r /t 30
b) shutdown -%windir%\System32\shutdown.exe /s /t 30
the /t option is the amount of time to wait before taking action - you can set it to a lower seconds count (/t 15...), set it to 0 or leave off the /t parameter if you want quicker action

 

It seems like it only shows up when shutting down from the Power button in the start menu. Any other way of shutting down (and there are a number of other ways, alt-x (right click start button), ctrl-alt-del (power button in lower right), shutdown from command prompt, shutdown gadget of some kind, restart after windows update, or just pressing the power button on the front of your computer... none of them exhibit the issue.

So, given the multitude of other ways of shutting down... this isn't really a big deal.

 

Has anyone notice the error after the clean install of windows 10 and before windows did updates?

 

I just installed build 10130 and got this message. I'm on a clean install.
Also noticed that restarting just seems to stay on the restarting screen with the spinning dots, and it stays there for ages. I had to hit the power button on my PC to restart.

 

Yeah, not sure what it's doing. However, it does eventually restart. Took about 5 minutes the last time it happened to me.
