Error Message saving software to Program Files folder on C: drive

I can't save software in Program Files on my C: drive because I am getting an error saying I am not the administrator. It offers some alternative location. I don't want an alternative location. I want my software programs to reside on my C: drive in Program Files folder where they are supposed to reside. However, the snip here indicates my system does correctly identify me as the administrator. What gives? Can someone help me so I can save Ubuntu and CentOs for my Linux studies?

    :)

  2. Unable to save files in C Drive as an administrator

    Hi,

so whenever I install a new programme on my computer, I cannot save it directly to C drive, for example, C:\Program Files. I will receive the following error message:

    "C:\Program Files\Application_name

You don't have permission to save in this location.

Contact the administrator to obtain permission.

Would you like to save in the bertr folder instead?"

    (bertr is my user folder)

I do not understand why this is happening, as I am the administrator and only user of my laptop. One workaround is for me to save in another folder, move it, and when it asks for administrator permission I can click "yes", no problems there.

By extension, I am unable to access some other administrative functions, for example the full list of settings in "Advanced Power Settings".

    Please assist, thank you!

Sorry if that sounds too confusing. From what I've read, it is a problem with the program SmartBridge. The suggest fix for this problem was to go into the place where it is installed (C:\Program Files\Verizon...\Smart... ) and look for the file called PSAPI.DLL and simply right click and rename to something such as PSAPIOLD.DLL (it is not important, but the one in the Windows\System32 folder is), then restart. When the computer starts up, it should overlook the old PSAPI.DLL (due to rename) and find the one in the System32 folder and then run. At least this is my understanding. Let me know if that helps.

Error Message saving software to Program Files folder on C: drive

User folders in root C: drive

In my new Windows 10, these folders were generated:

    • Intel
    • PerfLogs
    • Program Files
    • Program Files (x86)
    • Users
    • Windows
Is there a policy of users generating new folders in this root C: drive?

On my old W7 PC I had several folders in C:, providing a shorter path for applications.

E.g. Is there an advantage when new Windows software is installed?
