Error Message, when attempting to access a "Windows XP shared Printer" from "Windows 10"

For historical reasons, we have a machine running Windows XP (not connected to the internet) - and theres a printer attached, which is "shared".

Recently, I needed to add this printer to a new Windows 10 Machine - which just failed.

    Using the regular Way of:

    - Printers & Scanners

    - Add Printer

    - The Printer that I want isn't listed
    - Select a shared printer by name:
    --- \\XP-machine\printershare

resulted in an error (error code was something like 0x0....00180)

Also the "regular autocomplete" when providing "\\xp-machine\" just showed "nothing"...

Only the attempt of trying to create a "manual" (local) printer connection, providing the share-name as "path" showed what's the

    actual cause:

(German Error message, stating the fact, that Windows XP only supports SMB1, while Windows 10 requires at least SMB2):

    Workaround:
(On the Windows 10 Machine, attempting to access the XP-Share)
Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features on or off > check the box for "SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support" (Client is enough)

    Suggestion:

Update the error Message, when adding printers "automatically". Just doing nothing or showing "0x0000....000180" doesn't help at all.
(The error message is already there and working for "manually added connections", see screenshot!)

    :)

    Can't share printer—getting error message

    Step 1: Go to store.
Step 2: Buy a less shitty printer.
Step 3: Pick up some beer while you are there.
Step 4: Enjoy both your new printer and your beer.

In all seriousness, I have had more issues with Lexmark printers and their shitty drivers then any other manufacturer, HP is a close second though.

However, if you don't want to get a new printer*Laugh , and I can understand that, when my Lexmark was giving me the same troubles in Win7(and Vista) I had to make sure the Windows firewall was ON and the firewall service was enabled and running. After I shared it I could re-disable the firewall and firewall services.

    Can't share printer—getting error message

Not working... I see the printer, but when I go to add it, I get this messge: "Windows could not connect to the printer (error 0x0000000d)."

I installed the 32-bit drivers for it and printed something out from the pc the printer is connected to, and I went to the additional drivers page and added drivers for 64-bit, and when I went to add the printer on the other machine, it copied drivers over, but after that I got the error message listed above...

    Can't share printer—getting error message

Yeah, I have windows firewall disabled, and I don't use any other firewall... mostly to prevent stupid issues like this.

None taken... and yeah, I do.
