Windows 10: Error MSVCP100.dll keeps appearing for application

I recently built a new PC and installed Windows 10 through a service that provides discounted/free OS and software for students. I have little computer experience and have been struggling with permissions for the past few hours, but now I've run into a new issue. Every time I try to run DeSmuME a Nintendo DS emulator program, I keep getting met with the same issue: "The code execution cannot proceed because MSVCP100.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem." I went to the get Help Microsoft app, and the person there told me to download two files, one called "VC_redist.64x" and "VC_redist.86x" without the quotations. Both of these are installed in my User folder on my C: drive; even though I saw a video saying they should be in the SysWOW64 folder, the support person told me that I could put them anywhere. Moreover, trying to put them in the SysWOW64 folder tells me I don't have the proper permissions, even though I enabled full access for my windows account on this PC.


In short, what have I done wrong? I downloaded the two files the support person sent to me, yet I'm still met with the error code "The code execution cannot proceed because MSVCP100.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem." Is there some other permission I don't have enabled?

Hello back TPU!

Yesterday I saw two files(msvcp100.dll and msvcr100.dll) in my C:\ disk folder. What does this mean? I know this two files should be in C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System32 or somewhere in C:\Windows but not in main disk folder. I deleted this files but files appeared again today. Is this a virus or maybe an application? How can I check this?

they are microsoft visual studio files, leave em alone.

The first method to try is to download msvcp100.dll inside Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 redistributable package. Follow the steps:

• Go to Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable Update 3 RC from Official Microsoft Download Center and click on
  Download;
  
• In case you have 64-bit OS, check on both of the versions (x64 and x86, it’s important!), if you have 32-bit OS – check on x86 only and download it to your machine;
  
• Run vc_redist.x86.exe at first, then — vc_redist.x64.exe;
  

After the installation, now you should see msvcp100.dll and other dll in folders C:\Windows\System32\ or C:\Windows\SysWOW64\.

That should help you to fix the issue.

Sometimes msvcp100.dll can be accidentally deleted by installation wizard of other app. Check if the file is located in the appropriate folder – C:\Windows\System32\ or C:\Windows\SysWOW64\.
