Windows 10: Error showing that "The account is not associated with the Office" during activating Office.

Hey ! my father bought a new HP laptop in January 2020. In which Office Home and Student was pre-installed and the office was activated. But few days a ago I tried to update Office and the updates were successfully installed after that I got a error 0xc0000142 and the applications were not opening so tried to repair them online by going into the Control Panel .Office apps were repaired so tried to open a docs file when the word opened it was showing to activate Office. It shocked me really because earlier the message - "Activate Office" was not coming before I update the office. Please Help I am in a big trouble. When I tried to login with the account that was earlier longlined the error was coming that "The account is not associated with the Office" even the Office was pre-installed in the laptop. Help me, and a notification was coming that on 18th Oct most of the features will be disabled.

Office 365 on Continuum

The following steps worked for me (don't ask me how or why ):

• Click any office app on windows phone.
• In the screen, it shows New, Browse & recent files. It also shows my name/account at the top-right.
• Clicking on you name/account at top-right shows 2 accounts associated with this application.
  • Personal Account
  • Official Account
• Clicking on any of these accounts, only gives an option to sign-out.
• Since Microsoft Support technical team suggested that I reset my device. I did not want to reinstall all the apps, take backups & then reconfigure all of these again after the reset, unless it was the only option left.
• With no better option, I clicked sign-out on both the accounts listed in step 4 above. I then signed in with my official account. I was able to create new Office documents now.
• I logged-in to my other personal account also now. My office app still worked & allows me to access onedrive associated with both my personal & business accounts.

I was facing the same issues & even had multiple calls with Microsoft Support & waiting for a resolution.

Going through the above thread, I realized that multiple Microsoft accounts (personal & office) are associated with these apps. When I signed out of both these accounts from within the app & signed back in, I was able to edit using the office apps.

Can't activate office

Hi Sue, if you downloaded form that link and your Office is showing as not activated, please try this:

Run through the Office activation troubleshooter:

If that does not resolve this for you, follow these steps to perform a full repair of your Office installation . . .

Open Control Panel - Programs and Features

Click Microsoft Office in the list of installed applications

At the top, click 'Change'

On the resulting dialog, click 'Repair' - choose the Online Repair, it is a comprehensive fix

That should fix any issues with your Office Installation, including activation . . .

Hi Adrian, follow these steps to perform a full repair of your Office installation, which should also repair this Activation error . . .

That should fix any issues with your Office Installation . . .
