Hi all,For some very specific context that may apply to the situation: I recently tried to install Linux Ubuntu onto my Windows 10 computer in order to complete some programming projects. I had just about completed the process and got to a few steps before actually "installing" the operating system when my screen froze. I waited for about 20 minutes nothing had changed before the power in my house went off. I turned my computer back on and went to Disk Management as I suspected the prior screen-freeze issue may have been storage related. I attempted to shrink the volume of the drive contai

The volume you have selected to shrink may be corrupted. Use Shkdsk to fix the corruption problem, and then try to shrink the volume again.

My PC has the drives C and D. One day the File Explorer started freezing. I got several messages:

"ERROR: No boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed.", the BCD one about "0xc0000e9" and "A disk read error occurred Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart".

So I did a clean Windows install. The PC worked as normal to begin with, but after I'd added several 100 GB of my personal files back to the D drive the freezing started. I found a possible solution about shrinking the volume a little bit, so I went into Disk
Management and right clicked the D drive to shrink it. Then I got the message: The volume you have selected to shrink may be corrupted. Use Shkdsk to fix the corruption problem, and then try to shrink the volume again."

So I did this process: https://askleo.com/chkdsk_what_is_it_and_how_do_i_run_it/ and entered CHKDSK D: /R, and the process ran all night. But there was no progress during the night, so I restarted the PC to try something else. Now I get the message: "The Boot
Configuration Data file doesn't contain valid information for an operating system." and the BCD error "0xc0000098".

I've created a new Windows recovery drive, but that process didn't help. It seems like aborting the chkdsk process was a bad idea. Is there something I can do? Will I lose my Windows license if this HDD is beyond repair and I buy a new HDD for my PC? Can I
transfer the license to a new HDD?

  3. Shrinking of Volume of a SAN Disk

    Hello,

I do have a one disk from our SAN storage that I wanted to shrink the volume but I am having an error message "The volume you have selected to shrink may be corrupted. Use Chkdsk to fix the corruption problem, and then try to shrink the volume again."
    See image below:

Error: "the volume you have selected to shrink may be corrupted. Use chkdsk to fix the... ab58f083-0665-4b5d-a9a0-7297ccff4f00?upload=true.png

But when i tried to right-click to that disk and select properties. Go to the Tools Tab and click "Check" under the Error Checking nothing is happening.

Error: "the volume you have selected to shrink may be corrupted. Use chkdsk to fix the... 1274ec22-7d05-4f3d-bbbb-10dd1daa4fce?upload=true.png

Did someone encounter this issue and can let me know how can I possible shrink this volume that was taken from our SAN.

    Kind Regard,

    Jeffrey

    Shrinking a volume

    Hi tfd3

    Close Disk Management

Click your Start Button, then just type cmd

From the resulting list, right click Command Prompt and choose 'Run as Administrator'

Paste this command and hit Enter:

    diskpart

Paste this command and hit Enter:

    list volume

(note down the number of the Volume you intend to shrink)

Paste this command and hit Enter (replace x with correct volume number)

    select volume x

    extend filesystem

When that completes, close Command Prompt and try shrinking that partition again in Disk Management
