Windows 10: Error upgrading to preview 18317 from 18290 with error 0xc0000005

Hi, I've tried to upgrade multiple times and always get this error. I have tried the "net stop/start such and such" CMD fix but that doesn't seem to fix it.


It happens after I set to use an external storage drive for extra storage space if that is any help.


I've looked around but I can only see kind of over the top fixes such as reinstalling Windows, I was wondering if there is any other fix.


Support mentioned that this might mean that this update isn't compatible, I was wondering also if this is accurate?

If running your antivirus software to scan for malicious programs does not help, I suggest disabling Data Execution Prevention. It's a built-in feature on Windows for protecting your computer. Some programs may not be compatible with this feature and opening
the app or game will cause 0xc0000005 error.

To disable it, log in using an admin account and follow these steps:

1. Press Windows key + R, type sysdm.cpl and press
   Enter.
2. Click the Advanced tab > Settings button.
3. Click the Data Execution Prevention tab.
4. Select Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select.
   
5. Click Add and open the problematic executable file/game.
6. Click OK.

when i try to upgrade my windows 8.1 to 10 then my laptop show 0xc0000005 error after 100 % of downloading and about 40% installing.I try to reinstall it but problem remain same.
