Hi, I am trying to upgrade one of my desktops from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 build 10240, but I am always receiving the error that Windows 10 Installation has failed. I tried to upgrade my ultrabook and my other desktop and everything went fine. I am only having problems with this one. Below is my setuperr.log

  2. Winbook TW802 (Kingston S10032) running 8.1, Upgrade question

Thank you, Wungraileng Vashi, for taking the time to help me, and many others, affected with this problem.

I'm willing to provide actual pictures, screenshots, or files if I am able to access them to help you.

I'm sure I can safely say, the owners of the same tablet models would love to enjoy Windows 10 like I am, on the WinBook TW802

    .

The link immediately below is from Microcenter's online tech support forum. I copy pasted the post here for your convenience. I removed internal forum links to avoid confusion. Please focus on
WinBook TW802 (I copied the whole post since it provides information important to the second bold question in my original post here on build 10240)

As you can see, there is reason for me to be extremely cautious about letting Windows Update install build 10586
to our second TW802 (from 8.1 to Windows 10 build 10586).

All of the upgrade processes require a minimum of 14GB of free space. If additional space is required, Setup will /prompt for a USB drive or SD card to cache the upgrade files. This drive is no longer required after the process is complete.

    **WinBook TW100**

    a. Upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 build 10240 passes testing and is supported.

    b. Upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 build 10586 passes testing and is supported.

    c. Upgrading from Windows 10 build 10240 to Windows 10 build 10586 passes testing and is supported.

    **WinBook TW800**

    a. The TW800 does not upgrade to any build of Windows 10. The TW800 will revert to previous OS when the upgrade fails.

    **WinBook TW801**

    **WinBook TW802**

    a. Upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 build 10240 passes testing and is supported.

    b. Upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 build 10586 will either revert back to Windows 8.1, or it will display We'll be ready soon - Don't turn off your PC and not proceed any further, or stops responding at or around 45% completion of the Installing Windows
phase and then reverts back to the previous OS after rebooting the tablet.

    c. Upgrading from Windows 10 build 10240 to Windows 10 build 10586, the process stops responding during the We'll be ready soon - Don't turn off your PC phase and the tablet will not revert to Windows 8.1. After this occurs, the only solution is for service
to reinstall the factory master image.

    **WinBook TW700**

    a. Upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 build 10240 passes testing and is supported.

    b. Upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 build 10586 passes testing and is supported.

    c. Upgrading from Windows 10 build 10240 to Windows 10 build 10586 fails. The TW700 will revert back to Windows 10 build 10240.

    Insider preview 10240 is RTM

from win 8.1 upgraded to insider preview build 10130 and upgraded to new build 10240.

activated permanently and licencee to Retail channel. no expire date on this build 10240 RTM

I am from Insider preview (upgraded from windows 8.1), does my windows 8.1 considered upgraded?

two of my computers got the same generic key, ending with 3V66T...i heard also other people with the same key.

can i clean install windows 10 RTM without key and it will it be activated automatically?

  4. Error upgrading Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 build 10240

I generally recommend a clean install of any new Windows OS, rather than upgrading, this ensures fewer issues in the long run. Upgrading is risky since some apps/softwares might not work and some things might be broken. Sure, you'll have to reinstall program/apps/games/drivers/ etc, but it really doesn't take *that* long.

Have you tried doing doing basic stuff like running chkdsk and sfc /scannow? What about running the Windows 10 upgrade tool (or whatever they're calling it now) to see if anything you have installed is incompatible? Also, try creating a new partition, format it as NTFS, and do a clean install of 10 into that partition. You won't lose your current OS by doing this. If installing fails or something is badly broken, then that's an indication that something is wrong.

Without more details, it's really hard to help you. Like error codes, any messages you got, etc.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I tried all things above, including a clean install of windows 10. A clean install works perfectly, but I cannot activate if I not upgrade from my windows 8.1 installation a first time. Today I tried again upgrading my 8.1 to windows 10, using the media creation tool that I downloaded from microsoft. And again, my upgrade failed.. Don't know anymore what I can do.
