    Error when creating a recovery USB using Media Creation Tool


    When I try to burn the ISO file onto a USB drive, using the Media Creation Tool I get this error.Error Message: We're not sure what happened but we're unable to run this tool on your PCError in short: Unexpected errorError Code: "0x800704C8" 0x20018I'm using Windows 11 23H2Both my computer and the ISO file is 64 bit.

    Hi Stuart,

    To assist you better with your concern, are you getting an error message upon creating a recovery drive, as well as creating a bootable USB drive? If yes, what's the error message?

    Cannot create recovery drive or bootable usb using media creation tool

    I have a Surface 4 and I am attempting to make a recovery drive and/or a bootable USB using media creation tool.

    I have been searching the web and I have tried:

    • sfc/scannow
    • another USB drive

    Any ideas what I can do? I have just completed this process on an older PC with no problems at all.

    Error when creating a recovery USB using Media Creation Tool

    Window 10 Media Creation Tool errors with 0x80070456 0xA0019

    I am trying to use the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool to create a bootable USB flash drive but am getting an error message. It seems download the files successfully but fails part way through transferring the files to the USB drive.

    The error message code I get is "Something went wrong ... 0x80070456 - 0xA0019"

    The steps I take are

    1. Run the program
    2. Accept the license conditions
    3. Choose "Create installation media for another PC"
    4. Language "English (United States)", Edition "Windows 10", Architecture "64-bit (x64)"
    5. Choose "USB flash drive"
    6. Choose the USB flash drive from the list

    I am running Windows 10 Professional. The USB drive is 64Gb.
