  2. 2023-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 failed to install but no longer shows up

    Hello,

I recently tried to install the following updates:

    1) 2023-07 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework, 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 22H2 for x64 (KB5028851)

    2) 2023-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5028185)

The .NET Framework update installed just fine, but Windows Update said the second one (KB5028185) "failed" to install. I clicked "Retry," and I was told that it "failed" to install the update a second time. However, Windows Update now says my computer is "up to date," and it doesn't find any updates to install when I click "Check for updates."

Worst of all, when I click on "Update history," it doesn't mention KB5028185 at all, so the most recent security update that was "successfully installed" is the one released on June 13, 2023. For reference, it is listed as: 2023-06 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5027119)

So, in short, I need to figure out whether the following update was installed: 2023-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5028185)

It doesn't show up in the update history, and it's obviously very important since it was meant to address a variety of security issues. Here's the official web page for it: July 11, 2023--KB5028185 July 11, 2023—KB5028185 (OS Build 22621.1992) - Microsoft Support

One last thing worth mentioning: I opened Windows Event Viewer, clicked on Windows Logs, then clicked Setup, where I found the following messages for July 11, 2023:

"Initiating changes for package KB5026372. Current state is Superseded. Target is Absent. Client id: Arbiter." (Not sure what this is)

"Initiating changes for package KB5026549. Current state is Installed. Target is Absent. Client id: Arbiter." (Not sure what this is)

"Package KB5028185 was successfully changed to the Installed state." (Update that gave me a "failed" message)

"Package KB5028851 was successfully changed to the Installed state." (.NET update that succeeded)

This seems to confirm that KB5028185 was successfully installed even though the "Update History" in the Windows Update menu has no record of it, but I need to make sure. Please help me make sense of what is going on here.

    Thanks.

  3. INSTALL ERROR: 2023-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5028185)

    Hello,

When I install the following update:

    2023-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5028185)

and restart my computer, while restarting, the update will progress until the screen suddenly reads:

"Something didn't go as planned. No need to worry - undoing changes. Please keep your computer on."

Eventually the restart process will complete, but the "Windows Update" section of settings shows "Install error - 0x8007045b" for this update, indicating it did not complete, still allowing me to try again.

I have tried each of the steps listed in the following links and do not have an anti-virus. As well, "sfc/scannow" and the "dism" commands do not detect anything wrong and always come back clean.

    Fix Windows Update Error 0x8007045b.

  4. Error when update windows KB5028851 and KB5028185

    Windows Update errors

My system had been unstable these few days and I am having problem with two recent updates.

    2023-07 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 22H2 for x64 (KB5028851)

    Install error - 0x800700c1

    2023-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64 (KB5028185)

    Install error - 0x800705b9

    Install error - 0x80248007

My Windows 11 Pro version is 22H2 (OS Build 22621.1702)

I followed some advice online to perform a SFC in cmd, couldn’t run it, said “Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service”. Tried run cmd as admin, nope. Tried manually turn on Windows Modules Installer, nope*2. Tried to do all the above in safe mode, nope*3.

    I’m exhausted. Send help.
