Windows 10: Error while recovering photos from external drive

HiMy desktop started developing problems and before the desktop died I backed them up to an external drive I did try backing them up to OneDrive but it was very slow and my desktop kept crashing. I then downloaded the photos to my new laptop; and while they are showing as being there, they all have zero bytes and I can't open them.Is there anything I can do I will admit up front then I am well old over 50! and technically hopeless, so any assistance would be appreciated. The files are still on the external drive, but its the same there.ThanksTony

• Just to confirm, the device that is not working properly is a external DVD optical drive?
• Were there any recent changes or updates installed on your computer?
• Have you tried to plug the external drive to a different port on your computer?

• Type “Troubleshooting” in the Search bar and press Enter.

Transferring photos to a USB drive/external drive

Hi Cameron

Right click one of those photos in your Documents folder, then choose Send To' - your USB drive should be bottom of that list

Does that file transfer to the external drive successfully?

If not, what is the exact error you see?
