ESET Renewal Pending - Do I really need to sign on for this again?

All I have a 3 pack of ESET (Antivirus Only) set to renew on August 11 and before I pull the trigger this time - I wanted to enlist to power of the Ten Forums crew to give me the straight goods. I have used ESET for at least 10 years now - never had an issue with the product or even the cost - but I am now wondering AFTER 10 long years and the advent of a pretty decent Defender product built right into Win 10 - is a third party AV solution really necessary in 2021? I had these three licenses covering our 3 main PCs for the family - and none of us are sculking around in the shadows of the darkweb or anything that might actually require a major third party AV solution intervention. This renewal is making me question the "point" to it all - plus I do have a MalwareBytes license available that could be run on demand as needed (or even if needed). What say you Ten Forums? What's everyone doing out there for AV these days. Appreciate any input from the field. Cheers Sonic.

    :)

    Clean Uninstall ESET

    Try uninstalling your ESET first.
    1. Download http://download.eset.com/special/ESETUninstaller.exe
    2. Boot to Safe Mode
    3. Uninstall ESET using Control Panel
    4. Use the ESET Uninstaller Tool
    5. Restart normally

After restarting, if you encounter a problem with your network adapter (LAN/Wi-Fi)
    1. Open Network and Sharing Center
    2. Click on "Change adapter settings" found on the left side
    3. Right-click and choose Properties on the adapter you are currently using
    4. Uninstall the one with ESET on its name
    5. Click OK

How to boot to Safe Mode
    1. On your Start Menu, click on Power
    2. Hold the Shift key on your keyboard then click on Restart

The black screen with a cursor is actually color gray.
If this happens, just chill out and wait because Windows is still loading.
If you want to speed up your boot up process, try removing the unnecessary startup items and please do schedule a time to defrag your drives.

Cannot delete Purge leftover ESET Security data(ESET InternetSecurity)

Like many others I also had problems uninstalling ESET products…

I ran their free on-line AV scanner for a while and was happy, it then started giving problems – various icons would display but no writing so using it was problematical. I assumed that this might be caused by one of MS’ updates but the computer behaved correctly otherwise. In the meantime I’d downloaded and installed their NOD AV package. I did not like that so decided to uninstall both and this is where problems arose. While I was able to uninstall the NOD product via the PC apps screen the desktop icon remained and clicking on this the programme ran so it had obviously not been uninstalled properly… One of the solutions suggested on here required putting the PC into safe mode and appeared quite involved (for me) but on the ESET site there is some software that can be downloaded that will detect ‘all’ AV software and it then gives the user the option to remove any of the products detected, including ESET. This seemed ideal so I downloaded and ran their uninstaller.

I have MalwareBytes, the two ESET products and an F-Secure on line scanner which I was going to trial after uninstalling the ESET products. The ESET uninstaller did not detect ANY of the four programmes – it did not even detect its own software...

I’ve managed to look around the PC and delete all the obvious references to ESET, there are probably remnants left which I can’t find… Thinking back I seem to remember having problems with ESET products before but I assumed that these would have been sorted out by now. Obviously not.

I’ve carried out the 6 steps zbook lists in post 2 and everything comes back clean so I can only hope that whatever is left does no harm…

    >>> I’ve managed to look around the PC and delete all the obvious references to ESET, there are probably remnants left which I can’t find… <<

    And there are !!!

I just typed ESET into the search box and up comes 'ESET OnLine Scanner' with an 'Open' box. When I click on it nothing happens so presumably there are still some remnants of this pest on my PC...
