Windows 10: ETD Properties: Unable to connect the ELAN Touching Device Driver

Hello,

When installing drivers for my ELAN trackpad, I don't see the ETD control panel in my computer. I have included information that may help in resolving this issue below. Note that the subject of this question is from theETD Properties section.


My computer

• Lenovo Ideapad 330-14IKB Type 81G2
• It is running Windows 10 Home, version 2004

Drivers

• I have installed the trackpad drivers from this page: laptops and netbooks :: 300 series :: 330 14ikb type 81g2 Lenovo PC Support - Lenovo Support US
• It does what it is intended to do, except, after restart, I don't see the ETD control panel.

Source folder of the drivers

• There are two driver folders in my C:\ drive:
  C:\DRIVER I forgot what I did to install these
  C:\DRIVERS from Lenovo Vantage
• Both contain a folder for the trackpad, in which contain a "Source" folder.
• The "Source" folder contains "ETDCtrl.exe", which, if I'm right, is the control panel.

ETDCtrl.exe

• When opened, cursor spins, but no application opened.
• Checking Task Manager, "ETD Control Center" appears under Background processes after opening.

Lenovo Vantage

• I have used this application to check for the latest trackpad drivers.
• While it did find updates for other drivers, it's not the case for the trackpad.

ETD Properties

• Someone in this community answered "ETD Properties" in Microsoft Store.
• It's the same case, it did not detect my trackpad even if it's an ELAN trackpad and the driver supplied by the manufacturer is installed.
  "Unable to connect the ELAN Touching Device Driver. Please install the ELAN Driver to enable the UI functions."

Uninstalling driver

• As far as I remember, I only uninstalled the "ELAN pointing device" in Device Manager.
• I restarted after, thinking it would fetch a different "type" of driver or something along those lines.
• It did make the trackpad function again after being uninstalled, thanks to Windows Update.
• I opened the ETD Properties app. Thankfully, a window opened saying:
  "Unable to connect the ELAN Touching Device Driver. Please install the ELAN Driver to enable the UI functions."
• I was being sarcastic. It was just the same case again and again.

elan touchpad driver update

I recent came across this issue with my parents laptop.

Windows insisted the device was an ELAN touch pad (which it is), but would install ELAN Touchpad 15.8.4.3_X64_WHQL.

However, I visited the ASUS website, and found the latest Touch Pad drivers for Windows 10 (ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Driver & Tools - R510CA
), which was ASUS Smart Gesture (For Windows 10 Upgrade / Touchpad Driver) V4.0.5. I had to uninstall the previous driver first, then installed this one, and it worked. It actually installed the device as an ASUS Touchpad instead of the previous ELAN device.

I've performed several reboots and Windows update checks, and while the ELAN tab still appears on the Mouse Properties screen, all options are disabled because there are no active devices using it.

 

Elan c12 filter driver not working

i have checked that the elan c12 filter driver installed is correct from Acer support website for my machine and it is correct version but date is different on my install it is 23/4/2019 and under Acer driver download it is 18/8/2015. Also what is strange
is when i check in task manager in processes ETDservices.exe is missing. This elan c12 filter driver is listed in setting>apps& features and device manager .Also listed in control panel as ELAN HID12C filter driver X64 13.6.31_WHQL .There is definatley no
elan tab at end of mouse properties last one is hardware tab.

 

ELAN Driver for touchpad -Windows 10

Having just upgraded my 5+ yr. old Samsung laptop, at the 11th hour, from W7 to W10, I too experienced an erratic and non-responsive Elan touchpad -- cursor jumping to corners and edges of screen every time the touchpad was touched, with unavailable tapping
or buttons. It was useless.

Driver update wasn't applicable as I had the latest driver; roll back made the touchpad completely unresponsive and unusable; so with trial and error I found with the following steps I was able to revert my touchpad to it's former functionality (apart from
scrolling):

Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Device & Printers > Mouse

On the Mouse Properties box, select Hardware tab, check that Elan PS/2 is highlighted if using an external mouse, then click Properties, followed by Change Settings on the next box.

Select Driver tab, then click Update Driver and choose 'Browse my computer for driver software'. Now select 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'.

Click on 'Elan PS/2 Port Smart-Pad' For me this was the third one down (from 4) after two input device versions (current and roll back).Click the Next box and that should do the trick, although restart is required.
