Windows 10: Ethernet adapter stops working when sending lots of data

I am having an intermittent but easy-to-reproduce issue where my Ethernet adapter will stop working under certain conditions. I believe it happens when sending a larger amount of data (for example, backing up my photo library to One Drive or streaming videos from my machine via Chromecast or DLNA).


When the issue occurs, the adapter loses connectivity (Windows displays a yellow triangle next to the network icon in the system tray - "no network access"). The problem can be resolved by resetting the adapter (either by using the Windows Network Troubleshooter or by manually disabling/enabling the adapter via the "Change Adapter Options" setting.


I am running Windows 10 Pro Version 1809 (build 17763.678).


My hardware is very old - I have an Asus P5K motherboard with a built-in Atheros L1 Gigabit Ethernet network adapter. I wouldn't be surprised if it's just showing its age and it's a hardware problem (bus or the Ethernet adapter itself) but I would like to ping the community to see if there is a way to get a better understanding into what's going on and to tweak the adapter settings to reduce/eliminate the problem.

any pci adapter this ethernet adaptor is built into my motherboard. I do have a sound card in a pci slot working fine.

Good Idea tried it and reset the bios with no result. It's like the ethernet adapter just stopped existing. When the cord is plugged in it glows yellow so it has power it just won't work. I'm using the usb pug now but it's BS to keep a motherboard you payed 179.00 when it doesn't work like it is supposed to. I typed Gigabyte tech support and I might have to RMA. That would suck since they have no advanced RMA. It was working fine until I took my motherboard out to put my Thermalright Ultima back on my CPU, put back together and it just stopped working WTF.

Solution 1: No Internet Access In Windows 8.1or Windows 10

Step 1:

Go to Device Manager → Network adapters.
Step 2:

Expand it (Network adapters).


Step 3:

Select your network adapter


Step 4:

Right click on your wireless network adapter or Ethernet adapter and then tap “Update Driver Software”.
(in this case your network adopter is Ethernet adopter so tap your Ethernet adapter)
Step 5:

Now on a new window you will need to click on “Browse my computer for driver software”.




Step 6:

Then select “Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer”.



Step 7:

Now choose the “Manufacturer’s drivers” from the list of two and then click next.



Step 8:

After the completion of the process just restart your PC and check if the problem is solved or not. If not, goto solution 2.



Solution 2: No Internet Access In Windows 8.1,windows10

Step 1:

Open command prompt.
Step 2:

Just go on hitting the enter after typing the each command.
netsh int tcp set heuristics disabled
netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disable
netsh int tcp set global rss=enabled
Step 3:

Now to check if the settings are disabled type:
netsh int tcp show global
then hit enter.
Step 4:

Now the thing left is just rebooting your system and just check if the problem is solved or not and just give feedback.*chuckle*Thumbs
