Windows 10: Ethernet connection not working?

Hello all,

After deciding I wanted to use a wired connection to replace my wifi adapter I purchased a cat6 Ethernet cable and plugged it into the back of my motherboard and into my router. My computer immediately recognized an Ethernet connection and says I’m “connected to the internet” in net work and sharing center however whenever I go to browse all pages say I’m not connected to the internet.

Things I’ve tried so far: 1. Run network troubleshooter. Windows keeps coming up with the same issue “default gateway is not available” but it says that it fixed it during the diagnosis

   Uninstall all network drivers in device manager and reset computer to allow old drivers to be discovered
   
   
2. 
   Reset network in network and sharing center
   
   
3. 
   Unplugged and re plugged cables in both ends
   
   
4. 
   Changed IP address from automatic configure to manually inputting the one my ISP uses under connection properties.
   

I’m stumped. Any ideas what’s causing this?

My reliable ethernet connection no longer works

Hi Marcia,

To better understand the query, please answer the following questions:

• After restarting is your computer in normal mode or not?
• Are you getting any error message?

I suggest you to reset the modem\ router and check if the Ethernet connection works or not.

If still the issue persist then I suggest you to follow the steps from the below article

Ethernet shows red X and does not appear in settings, but still works


Not sure why this is happening. I have working ethernet and am connected, it works fine. But the taskbar icon shows a red X over it, and the tooltip says "Not Connected - No connections are available". Looking in "Network & Internet", ethernet is not even listed there. And before anyone suggests wireless interference .. this PC does not have a wireless card or integrated wireless.

 

How to delete an ethernet connection?

Just as title says. I have some old ethernet connections in my list, and I would like to delete it to clean.

Any suggestion?
