  2. Modern apps not connecting to internet, desktop apps work fine.

    Hi,

As the post title suggests, I am having trouble with the modern apps and connectivity. It feels like half my computer will connect to the internet, and the other half won't. Desktop apps like Chrome, Steam, Outlook, iTunes etc. all connect to the internet fine, but any of the Windows apps like Xbox, Store and (most frustratingly) Settings will not connect.

In my network and sharing centre in the control panel it says 'You are not connected to any networks' - but in the system tray, and in the settings app it shows me as connected to my home wi-fi. I am on a desktop, and using a USB wireless adapter. I don't think the adapter is the problem as I have tried it on another desktop in our house on Windows 10 and it worked fine. Curiously also, when I click 'Adapter settings' in the control panel, it shows the wifi connection.

I've tried updating the drivers for the wireless adapter, both through the Windows update and adapter website but to no avail (and as I mentioned, it seems the adapter works fine elsewhere). I've updated manually to the latest Windows 10 Pro build, i've done a DNS flush, I've tried disabling firewalls and anti-virus, I've tried disabling startup apps, I've done a clean install of Windows 10 and still am unable to fix the issue.

If anyone has any ideas that might help that would be great. I'm happy to provide any more information if people need it.

    Thanks very much.

  3. error with epic games store 0xc000007b

If those steps did not resolve your issue, the next step would be to perform a clean boot and check if Epic Games works.

    1. Open System Configuration:
      • Press Win + R to open the Run dialog.
      • Type msconfig and press Enter.
    2. Configure Selective Startup:
      • In the System Configuration window, go to the General tab.
      • Select Selective startup and uncheck Load startup items.
    3. Disable Non-Microsoft Services:
      • Go to the Services tab.
      • Check the box for Hide all Microsoft services.
      • Click Disable all.
    4. Disable Startup Programs:
      • Open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
      • Go to the Startup tab.
      • Disable all startup items by right-clicking each item and selecting Disable.
    5. Restart Your Computer:
      • Click OK in the System Configuration window.
      • Restart your computer.
    6. Run the Epic Games Launcher:
      • After your computer restarts, try launching the Epic Games Launcher to see if the issue persists.
If performing a clean boot does not resolve the issue, consider the following additional steps:

    1. Check for Conflicting Software:
      • Some software, such as certain antivirus programs or system optimization tools, can interfere with the Epic Games Launcher. Ensure these are disabled or uninstalled temporarily to test.
    2. Clear Epic Games Launcher Cache:
      • Press Win + R, type %localappdata%, and press Enter.
      • Navigate to the Epic Games Launcher folder and delete the Web Cache folder.
    3. Reinstall the Epic Games Launcher:
      • Uninstall the Epic Games Launcher completely.
      • After uninstalling, delete any remaining Epic Games folders in %localappdata% and %programdata% if you haven't tried deleting them before.
      • Restart your computer and reinstall the Epic Games Launcher from the official website.

I kindly ask that you keep me updated on the outcomes after trying them.

Ethernet shows red X and does not appear in settings, but still works

Not sure why this is happening. I have working ethernet and am connected, it works fine. But the taskbar icon shows a red X over it, and the tooltip says "Not Connected - No connections are available". Looking in "Network & Internet", ethernet is not even listed there. And before anyone suggests wireless interference .. this PC does not have a wireless card or integrated wireless.
