    Ethernet connection: 'unidentified network'

    Hi all,

I'm yet another victim of the unidentified network Windows bug. I've had my Surface Pro 4 for two weeks now and ethernet has never worked through my docking station. Originally I thought it was a surface thing, but apparently all Windows users are confronted by it at some stage.

These are my results for ipconfig/all

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>ipconfig/all

The media disconnected message has no particular meaning, as my network adapter detects an ethernet plug. It simply cannot be identified. Troubleshooting gives me the following message: "ethernet" does not have a valid IP configuration.

I checked multiple times and the IP and DNS addresses are set to automatic.
    Things that didn't help

    • ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew
    • disabling and reenabling the ethernet adapter
    • resetting winsock
    • resetting ipv4 and ipv6
    • reinstalling the ethernet adapter

Incredibly frustrating stuff. Thanks in advance!

    Simon

  2. One or more network protocols are missing on this computer. Ethernet connection issue

The connection I am using is in an apartment building. The WiFi is connected to the apartment hotspot and the ethernet is plugged directly into the wall. No DHCP address exists for the ethernet connection. Also no Default gateway exists for the ethernet
connection. Ethernet readings are as follows:

    Status : Unidentified network

    Connectivity: No network access

  3. No Network Access on Ethernet after recent Anniversary Update

My Wifi works fine, but when I connect an Ethernet cable and try to run internet connection through it, the Ethernet says "Unidentified Network/ No Network Access". This only became an issue after the Anniversary Update. How do I get Internet access for
    Ethernet back?

Your #1 item of "ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew" is in error which may explain seeing no change, it should be ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew, the space before the slash / is required.

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly, I tried the to put a space in front of the /release and /renew, but the following error shows:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>ipconfig /renew
    Windows IP Configuration
No operation can be performed on LAN-verbinding* 3 while it has its media disconnected.

The media (ethernet plug) is definitely connected.
