    Ethernet Connections Competing for Authentication


    I just moved back to college for my third year, this time with the new desktop I built. Their Ethernet network uses authentication to gain access. For some reason I have multiple ethernet connections competing for authentication when I login, but I only have one physical port. There are Windows TAP v9 and Windows OAS 32 adapters that try to authenticate before my real one (Intel adapter). They end up failing to authenticate, dissappear from the network and sharing center, and I have to go through the troubleshooter to enable DHCP on my main connection. After this, everything works fine. I haven't figured out why DHCP gets disabled, because I have not set it to a static IP. I also can't figure out why the other TAP adapters appear then dissapear, when they aren't even in my device manager.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Attached is a screenshot of what happens on logon. It was hard to catch because the TAP adapter dissappears so fast.

    File Explorer

    Make sure the network is set as a “Home” network on both PCs. Try to wire the connections with Ethernet cables. Enable Network Discovery and File Sharing in File Explorer, under Network. Connect to the other computer and authenticate.

    Phone does not connect to hotspot, shows 'Authenticating' and 'Connecting'

    I have created a hotspot using Command Prompt (Admin) . But my Phone does not connect to the hotspot . It just shows

    "Authenticating" and "Connecting" but does not connect.

    Ethernet Sharing is checked.

    They're virtual drivers that install with some software. Ever install VPN software? Virtualization software? Comodo? Those are some likely candidates to begin with.

    Nope, I just did a clean install of 10 after upgrading, I had used Virtualbox in the past but that wouldn't have carried over. Also I haven't used a VPN before. I could post a list of programs I do have if that would help.

    It's so strange, I am connected to the right network on logon, then the TAP v9 adapter shows up in the Sharing Center. At first it is disconnected, then it attempts to authenticate, and then it dissappears. This leaves my real adapter without DHCP, making me run the troubleshooter to fix it.

    [/quote] I would make Symantec endpoint protection suspect #1. Try disabling it and then logging into your college network and see what happens. Even better, temporarily uninstall it completely and try the network, as sometimes, disabling isn't enough.

    Nope, the adapter still appears, tries to authenticate after my real adapter already has a connection, then disappears again :/

    Nothing in your list of software stands out. Are you running Windows 10 Home or Pro? If running Pro, is hyper-v enabled?

    No Unidentified Networks in the list of active netwroks in Network and Sharing Center? No connection other than probably your Intel network card, Bluetooth and/or wireless card in Network Connections? Also, in device manager, select View in the menu, select "Show hidden devices" and what is displayed under Network Adapters?
