Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration

8 hours ago my computer was connected via Ethernet and functioning fine during online gaming.

This morning approx. 4 hours ago I awoke to notice the computer updated and restarted during my sleep. Now the network icon has an exclamation mark and displays "Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration."

WiFi functions fine. Other devices connect to WiFi fine. PS3 is wired to a different port on the router and functions fine, so attempted to change ports the laptop connects to, with no success. Bypassed the router completely and went just Ethernet straight, still will not connect via wired connection.

I have powered off the laptop, router/modem with no success in rectifying the issue.

So this is weird. All morning I have not been able to access my default gateway router settings Web page. Just now I was able to access it. So I decided to reboot the modem from there. Now I can't access my wifi network on any device.

Sending this message from my phone network.

Unplugged router and modem, WiFi connectivity returned to all devices. Still no Ethernet connectivity for the laptop.

I am tempted to restore the BIOS to the last update and see if it fixes it.

So this is totally weird. I shut the PC off and entered BIOS by hitting F2 and Holding the Power Button. Looked over BIOS didn't notice anything weird, so discarded any changes and rebooted.

And what do I noticed at the login screen, Ethernet connection is restored.

Does this sound like a potential Windows Update issue that messed up the Ethernet functionality or does this sound more like a potential router/modem issue?

    I don't get it.

Here is ipconfig /all again to compare.

Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration

Does anyone notice anything in the first ipconfig/all to the last one posted that would indicate maybe why the Ethernet didn't have a valid IP configuration before?

I am concerned the provided router from my ISP is junk, and may be contributing or be the sole issue.

Any help is appreciated as I feel I should be ensuring the tech replaces my router when he arrives, regardless of the Ethernet connectivity being restored, especially with the sporadic drops in signal for the tvs, wifi etc. Bell Aliant FibreOP
