Windows 10: Ethernet home group

Hi, new to the forums. Ive just moved house and isp. I am trying to connect my pc to my router via an ethernet switch.

At first my pc would not even connect to a network so deleted and reinstalled the ethernet drivers.

Managed after several attempts to change my network from public to private, but i still have no access to the network.

Can anyone suggest a fix for me.

Setting Up Homegroup on Win 10

I know that this is a recurring question, but I haven't been able to find a solution on the forums I've searched. Basically, I can't set up a home group on two home PC's with Win 10 that were previously a home group on Win 8.1. One's connected by WiFi
while the other is ethernet connected. The WiFi connected PC says that it's set-up a home group but doesn't give me the password. The ethernet connected PC says that no connections are available when I disconnect it even though it is WiFi enabled. Any advice
would be a appreciated.

 

Homegroup not working

When I click or even copy & paste this URL I just get the windows forum first page.

I have three WIN 10 PCs on an ethernet LAN. No matter which PC I use and try to get to HOME GROUP I am told that there is a home group until I try to join and then the response is that there is already a home group --- but cannot join. Troubleshooter finds
no issue.

Your post provides no information as to what equipment you have.

Assuming you have, in addition to your PC which I assume is a desktop, a laptop or a tablet of some sort, or a smartphone can you check as to whether any of these is picking up an IP address from your router? Are they able to connect to the internet through your router?

I have a home built desktop pc.

The pc and smartphones can connect to the router through wifi and have internet access via the wifi.

Also i have a smart tv connected to the router directlt via ethernet which can connect to netflix etc.

The problem seems to be the ethernet connection via the switch.

Maybe i should try bringing the desktop downstairs and connect directly into the router?

 

Hi Shazman,

I would try that. Doing so will confirm that your desktop can communicate with the router. If it does so and allows you access to your network, you will then know that the problem is with your switch, or (probably more likely) with either the ethernet cable from your desktop to your switch or from your switch to the router.
