Ethernet icon gone from task bar, computer still connects to websites

Hi, recently, a couple days ago, the multiplayer for Halo MCC from Steam stopped working. Message read: cant connect to xbox live.
I learned that I could not access the friends menu from the windows xbox game overlay, some connection error read in the friends box.
I then learned that I couldn't access the microsoft store app.

It was then that I realized the networking icon was completely gone from my task bar.

I was able to go into the notifications bar, and click on the network button there, and it says Ethernet No Internet

The wierd part is that the internet does work and the network adapter is functioning properly 100% https://imgur.com/Naqv8Du but any microsoft services seemingly rely on reading the system's network status do not work. So I cannot recieve updates, I cannot access the microsoft store, and I cannot connect to xbox live.

The most recent update applied which may have fit the timeline for this error to ensue was: April 14, 2020—KB4549951 OS Builds 18362.778 and 18363.778

The network status window in the system settings shows some sort of broken icon where it would normally portray network status:

I went online and tried all the steps I could find to fix such similar issues from posts on microsoft answers.
I tried enabling the system icon, but the slider is grayed out... that was a different scenareo from any other help posting I could find.

    https://imgur.com/it8sXH0

I tried disabling and re-enabling the network adapter.
I tried uninstalling the network adapter and restarting.

I tried setting the "remove the networking icon" group policy to disabled even though it was not already configured

I tried some network settings reset command in the administrator command prompt that I found from a forum

I tried deleting HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify\IconStreams reg key and restarting.

None of these steps did anything to fix the issue.

Please help if you have any insight into this issue.

    :)

No Icons visible in task bar, Win 10

    Hi Richard,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community, we appreciate your interest in Windows 10.

As you are facing issues with icons in the Task bar after November update, do let us know the following:

    • Is this issue confined only with icons in the Task bar?
    • What happens when you try to click on those icons?
    • What exactly do you mean by: "they are there but not visible"?

Method 1: If you are referring to showing up of different icons in Task in System tray, I suggest you to try the below and check if it helps.

    • Press Windows key from the Keyboard, type
Turn system icons On or Off
      and select it.
    • Try to turn on the icons that are visible.

    Method 2:

Step 1: If not, I suggest you to place the computer in safe mode and check if the icons are visible to access.

Refer: Start your PC in safe mode in Windows 10

    If the issue still persists,

Step 2: This issue might have occurred due to corrupted or missing system files after the update. I suggest you to place the computer in normal mode and try to perform SFC scan.

Steps: Place the computer in normal mode.

    • Press Windows + R keys to open
      Run command.
    • Type msconfig and press
      Enter
      .
    • In the System Configuration
      window, click on General tab.
    • Select Start-up selection as Normal startup, click on Apply and Ok.
    • Follow onscreen instructions.

Perform SFC scan, System File Checkeris a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.

    Follow the below steps:

    • Right click on the Start button, click on
      Command Prompt (Admin)
      .
    • Type “sfc /scannow” without the quotes and hit
      Enter
      .
    • After the scan, restart the computer and check for the issue.

Hope it helps. Reply to the post with an updated status of this issue with required information, we will be happy to help you.
