Windows 10: Ethernet is connected but taskbar and settings say "Action needed, no Internet"

Ever since receiving an update to Windows 11 on December 11, I've been having an odd internet problem. I can connect to the internet, via ethernet or WiFi. I can visit websites and check emails without issue. However, when any other application attempts to use the internet Epic game server, Windows Update, Anti-virus/security updates are those I've noticed so far, it fails, because Windows doesn't seem to think I'm connected to the internet. The icon in the task bar reads "action needed, no internet," and when I run the Windows troubleshooter, I'm told the same thing. Since I actually do hav

Ethernet shows red X and does not appear in settings, but still works


Not sure why this is happening. I have working ethernet and am connected, it works fine. But the taskbar icon shows a red X over it, and the tooltip says "Not Connected - No connections are available". Looking in "Network & Internet", ethernet is not even listed there. And before anyone suggests wireless interference .. this PC does not have a wireless card or integrated wireless.

I understand that applications show that you are not connected to Internet. I’ll certainly help you with this issue.



However, please let us know:

• How is the computer connected to Internet i.e. Ethernet or Wi-Fi?
  
• Are you aware of any changes made on the computer prior to this issue?
  
• Which build version of Windows 10 is installed on the computer? To check type:
  winver in the search bar on the Taskbar and hit
  Enter.
  

I would suggest you to try changing the network connection i.e. if the computer is connected to Internet through Wi-Fi, try using Ethernet and check if that helps.

Changing internet type on a internet passthrough ethernet connection

You may try the following steps on your laptop and check if it works.

1. Open ‘Settings’ and choose ‘Network and Internet’.
   
2. Click on ‘Ethernet’ and tap ‘Properties’ for the network connection.
   
3. Set it to ‘Private’ and turn on ‘Make this PC discoverable’.
   
4. Close settings when finished.
