Ethernet Network Adapter Must be Reset After Waking From Sleep or Hibernate

I am having issues with my network adapter on my new machine. The first month or so, I could put the computer to sleep, and when I woke it up, I could still access the internet just fine. Now, whenever the computer wakes from sleep, it cannot connect to the internet. I have to run the Network Adapter Troubleshooter, and every time it resets my "Ethernet" I use a wired connection adapter, and this fixes the problem of "Ethernet adapter doesn't have a valid IP configuration." I have tried the following:

    • Disabling the fast startup option
    • Updating the driver
    • Uninstalling and reinstalling the driver

I have NOT been able to adjust the Power Options of the driver itself. I found that solution on a number of posts, but I don't have a Power Options tab when I open the properties of the driver. The driver in question is the Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller.

While this isn't a major issue, it is extremely annoying to have to reset my network adapter every time I wake my computer up from hibernation or sleep. I thought I had fixed it when I disabled the fast startup option because it worked great for a week, but then Windows updated and I'm right back where I started, running a troubleshooter every time I wake my machine up. And yes, I double-checked to make sure that the fast startup option is still disabled. I did notice when I was looking at the details of the adapter that it has an unspecified power setting for S1 and S2 power states, but I'm not sure how to change those, or if that's even my issue.

    :)

    S4 (hibernation) USB/network wake up

    Hi,

I have this annoying problem. When my computer enters the S4 powerstate (hibernation) I can wake it up by just clicking with the mouse. Even when EuP is enabled the mouse can still wake up the computer. After a night of sleep I find the computer powered on. So not only can the mouse wake up the system, it also seems that network traffic can too.

I thought that hibernation was like power off but with the option to save the RAM to disk. At least before I always need to push the power button to boot after hibernation.

    Any suggestions?

  3. Sleep Mode Disconnects Ethernet Internet Connection - An Oldie but a Goodie

    Hi,

There's a possibility that your Ethernet connection is not enabled to wake on magic packet. For us to isolate this, let's look into the advanced settings of your network adapter. Follow these steps:

    1. Navigate to Device Manager > Network adapters.
    2. Right-click on your Ethernet connection and click Properties.
    3. Click the Advanced tab.
    4. Under Property, scroll down and select Wake on magic packet.
    5. Set the value to Enabled.
    6. Click OK.

Once done, try to observe if Ethernet connection still disconnects if put to sleep mode.

    Looking forward to your reply..

    Regards.

Ethernet Network Adapter Must be Reset After Waking From Sleep or Hibernate

    Shutting down, hibernating, or sleeping?

I only get hibernate and allow wake timers not allow hybrid sleep.
