Windows 10: Ethernet shows red X and does not appear in settings, but still works

I have working ethernet and am connected, it works fine. But the taskbar icon shows a red X over it, and the tooltip...     Ethernet shows red X and does not appear in settings, but still works


    Not sure why this is happening. I have working ethernet and am connected, it works fine. But the taskbar icon shows a red X over it, and the tooltip says "Not Connected - No connections are available". Looking in "Network & Internet", ethernet is not even listed there. And before anyone suggests wireless interference .. this PC does not have a wireless card or integrated wireless.

    Wireless connection won'turn on on my hp notebook pc i recently upgraded to windows 10 pro. At times it does connect but most of the time it will not connect wirelessly but the Ethernet connection is perfect. The drivers are up to date .

    i have also tried to disable the adapter but still now changes....

    and also when when turning on from the settings the softkey does turn on but still the indicator still shows a grey with a red x on it

    Connection Problems w Windows 10 Creator

    My Windows 10 system thinks that it's not connected to the internet, but it is. The network icon shows a big red X, but if I click on it I see "Ethernet connected."

    Most browsers and programs work, but Outlook won't work and the system will not update. Both report connection issues. When I go to Network Settings, it appears that I'm not connected and it shows no network.

    I updated the drivers and did a full Network Reset, but it didn't help. I tried to roll back and reset, but it says that it can't find the installation information.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Are you using an Insider build? This is a known issue in one recent one (can't remember which one). I believe the latest preview build fixes it.
