Ethernet speed keeps changing to 10mbps after a Disconnect/Disabling the ethernet adapter...

Hi,I have used wifi for a long time to use the internet in my windows 11 desktop. Recently Ive switched to wired/ethernet connection and facing a very annoying issue that is, it connects as 100mbps Full-Duplex max speed supported by my router but if I disable the ethernet connection from control panel/device manager and enable it back, it resets to the speed of 10mbps and stays the same until I reboot my machine. Now,I have tried everything from changing my cat6 cable to upgrade/downgrade my realtek lan driver but no luck! Even tried using the default microsoft driver that comes with windows

    :)

  2. Ethernet speed limited to 10mbps

    Hi everyone,

I need to figure out why my speed is limited to 10mbps when using ethernet. I have Spectrum internet with a router. I don't have the top speed available, but it should be going faster than this. When I run a speed test while using ethernet, it seems to be capped at 10mbps. If I run the same test on wifi, the speed is much faster, but I need the stability of ethernet. I have a gigabit ethernet controller. My desktop and a hard drive are the only devices connected via ethernet, my phone and roku use wifi. Can you help me figure out what is going on here?

  3. Ethernet is Limiting download to 10Mbps

You may have to force both the router or switch port and the computer's Ethernet adapter to 100Mbps full duplex. But in my experience, some switch / Ethernet connections prefer and will run faster, with less errors, if both are set to Auto, rather than forced.
It is years ago since I looked at this though, as I always just let them use defaults at home.

I would suspect the cable also, as was already suggested. Even wireless is much faster than 10Mbps these days. My Realtek PCIe Family Controller is connected to Ethernet at 1Gbps.

Do you have some old switch between that might only be capable of 10Mbps?

It is also possible that connectivity has been limited per device by some router setting.

    Constantly disconnecting with ethernet cable

    Hello,

Thank you for keeping us posted on the status of the issue.

I suggest you to check if rolling back the Ethernet driver helps to resolve the issue. Follow the below steps.

    • First of all, Press Windows logo + R from keyboard. It will open
      RUN.
    • Now type devmgmt.msc and press Enter to open Device Manager.
    • You will see all the device list of your PC. Expand Network Adapters
    Rollback driver

Double click on your Ethernet driver in Device Manager. Then Click on
    Driver tab and select Rollback.

Important: If your drive is performing well and there is no error, Rollback driver button will be grayed out as an option.

If it still does not help, I suggest you to reinstall the drivers for the Ethernet driver and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

Note: Once you uninstall the drivers the Ethernet adapter device will be disabled and you won’t be able to connect to internet. So it is advisable to keep all the installer files as a back up in your hard drive.

Write to us with the results for further assistance.

    Thank You.
