ethernet two laptops w7p to w10p

    Hello to the forum.
I have tried to follow the tutorial here Share Files and Folders Over a Network in Windows 10
And read many other pages elsewhere and seen the ALLCAPS and "screaming at screen" 'discussions' in frustration. I am trying to keep my head but the rope only goes so-far.
A long while ago was able to network wirelessly WinXP to Win7ultimate ... so not entirely new to this.

    Current situation is:
    Laptop-A with win7pro ... Laptop-B with win 10 pro (1909 build)
'A' has Bitdefender Internet Security with Win Defender off.
'B' has Win Defender on without 3rd party security.

Have tried wireless for both, ethernet direct to router for both and ethernet crossover between both.
Tried many times to follow guidance but the furthest I can get is that both machines can 'see' each other on network but there is no access or permission is denied from both to either.
Other objects on network can be accessed (router home page, network printer home page, Bitdefender product agent)

I have ipconfig text files for both machines .....ipconfig_w7.txt and ipconfig_w10.txt

Yes ... I have got different names for machines, same workgroup names, did set ip addresses to different on each (currently reverted to auto ), did try 'AllowInsecureGuestAuth' without success and everything else offered/suggested).

Now lost ... but wish to only pursue the direct 'pc-to-pc via ethernet' method .. do not want to pursue the 'via router' method.
Purpose is to synchronise two machines directly (Using SyncBackSE).
Posting in hope and optimism ......
    Paul

W10P cannot reachs many sites for the last 2 weeks

    Good Morning.

I own a Lenovo E540 laptop with the following configuration:

    Intel(R) Core(TM) I7-4702MQ CPU @2.20 GHz 2.19 GHz

    RAM: 8.00 GB

System type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Windows 10 Pro version 1909 Installed 30/12/2019 OS Build 18363.752

It has a legit W10P coming from a legit W7P, the upgrade happened in Dec 2019. It has a 1 Tb HDD and 16 Gb SDD.

At the beginning it was slow but then it started to work in a decent mode. But I noticed it was and is not using the SSD as a cache, it was/is not using it at all. W7P was using the SSD as cache (I cannot compare W10P vs W7P, it would be an insult
    for W7P).

But since the previous week (20-27 March) there were some updates and suddenly I have huge issues with connectivity. The sites you see below are not reachable but others are reachable. Even Microsoft.com has issues, it must be refreshed 4-5 time to
reach it. If I shutdown and start the PC it works (reaches any site) for a couple of minutes then it starts again to fail reaching sites. There are sites I can reach.

Norton, Defender, AVAST, Malwarebytes cannot find any issue.

I f I use an Android phone with the same WI-FI SSID everything is OK.

At the same time Microsoft Edge is inert, doesn’t accept any address/command.

Is anybody able to elaborate on these issues and let us know how to fix them ?

    Thank You.

Install Win 7 Pro on Win 8.1 PC already upgraded to Win 10 Home

Now that explains it much better.
    If I upgrade from W7P - I get W10P
If I perform clean install - I get the license of my Last upgrade

Like if after upgrading from W7P to W10P, next clean install will get me W10P and not W10H, am I right?

0x80240fff updates error for clean install W10p

I performed a clean install of W10pro x64 this week with the gatherosstate.exe method to generate a ticket
from my existing W7p. The install went fine and activated once the ticket was copied over. I didn't
notice for a couple of days that updates was not working, and is giving the 0x80240fff error.

It turns out the install media I used was for the W10p ver1511, which apparently had windows update issues.
I have tried all of the posted fixes:
    Checking the defer updates box,
    Using the updates troubleshooter,
Restarting BITS, setting for delayed start,
    Resetting the update components wuauserv,cryptsvc,bits,msiserver,
    Renaming the softwareDistribution folder

So far this has not fixed the issue.
When W7 updates had issues, there was always a KB fix that could be manually downloaded. Someone please tell me there is a similar KB fix for W10, since I really don't want to repeat my clean install with newer media.

Update: The issue resolved itself without further action, but it took a day before it began updating. Not clear what step gave it the kick it needed.
