Event ID 28 disconnecting USB devices

I've been encountering problems with USB devices disconnecting for the last few weeks, can range from once/twice a day to every hourWhenever it happens, USBs devices in specific USB slots, seemingly only ones connected to the chipset will disconnect briefly, then after 10-15 seconds, will reconnectI have tried almost every suggestion such as moving them around, a Microsoft agent has gone through my PC to update drivers, updated Chipset, update BIOS, updated Windows, disabled Memory integrity, reinstalled GPU drivers, repaired system files SFC + DISM and Windows memory testOnly thing I have

    :)

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

    Hi there

Go to the EVENTS panel and you should see something like this : (note this is just an example from my system - your's will be different of course).

Now with the Vendor info you should be able to google for the proper driver - or at least get the hardware vendor ID from which you can go to a website.

Search on the characters between the \...and \ symbols or even just the first bit until you find a match.

    Cheers

Disconnect device sound with event ID 4624 and 4798

Hello Everyone - this is my first post and was not sure which forum to use.

My issue is that starting 2-3 days ago, I'm hearing a "disconnect device" sound several times throughout the day.
I've Googled it and it shows up as an issue - from what I can tell, the alerts correspond to Event IDs 4624 and 4798 under the security tab in Event Viewer. There are also times when IDs 4799, 4904, and 4905 appear as well.

I saw some people have used the app USBLogView (USBDview), but I haven't tried that yet.
This only started happening after I installed "Carbonite" - a subscription that I transferred from my old PC with Win7 to my brand new PC with Win10 (which I purchased and set up 1/2/20) - coincidence?
I know I can go into the sound control panel and change the "device disconnect" sound to "none" - but I'd prefer to know what is causing this new issue.
Is it a cause for concern, or just another "one of those things".

I enjoy working on my computer and like to do routine troubleshooting, so any help/advice would be much appreciated.
I've attached 2 text files with the details of those Event IDs.
    Thank you.

    Event ID 158

    Dear Intel-Otaku,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community

Thank you for reaching out with your concern about the Event ID 158 warning on your Windows 11 23H2 system. I understand this can be frustrating, especially since the provided solutions do not apply to your non-server environment.

Event ID 158 typically indicates a problem with disk identifiers, which might cause issues when multiple storage devices are connected. Since the solution you found is geared toward server environments using MPIO, we’ll try a different approach suited to your setup with external USB drives.

Here are some steps you can take to potentially resolve this issue:

    1. Disconnect and Reconnect External Drives:
      • Safely remove all external storage devices.
      • Restart your computer.
      • Reconnect the devices one at a time, allowing Windows to recognize each device anew. This might help in reassigning the disk identifiers properly.
    2. Update USB Controller Drivers:
      • Open Device Manager (you can search for it in the Start menu).
      • Expand the ‘Universal Serial Bus controllers’ section.
      • Right-click on each USB controller and select ‘Update driver’.
      • Choose ‘Search automatically for drivers’. Windows will attempt to find and install any updated drivers available.
    3. Change Drive Letters:
      • Open Disk Management (you can search for it in the Start menu).
      • Right-click the drives (particularly the external ones) and choose ‘Change Drive Letter and Paths…’.
      • Change the drive letter to something different. This can sometimes resolve conflicts that might lead to such warnings.
    4. Use Diskpart to Clear Disk Attributes:
      • Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
      • Type diskpart and press Enter.
      • Type list disk and identify your external drives by their size.
      • Type select disk X (replace X with the disk number).
      • Type attributes disk clear readonly to ensure the disk isn’t set to read-only.
      • Be cautious with Diskpart as it is a powerful tool. Make sure you are selecting the correct disk to avoid any data loss.
If these steps do not resolve the issue, it might be useful to look into the specifics of the hardware configuration of your external drives or consider consulting with a professional to physically inspect your setup.

Please let us know how it goes, and if you need further assistance, we’re here to help.
