Windows 10: Event ID 512 StorDiag Get Storage Firmware Information

Hello all,


Does anyone know why this error is reported in the event viewer.

I am interested in fixing this problem.

Event ID 504 and 507 from StorDiag with Windows 10

On a system that sfc, chkdsk is not showing any errors and was clean built last week.

Looking into the event viewer looking at the logs in Microsoft-Windows-Storage-ClassPnP/Operational

I see several error messages with source StorDiag looking at Flash Drives - and none are connected during each start up.

Completing a failed IOCTL request. - Error 504 (12 times)

Completing a failed non-ReadWrite SCSI SRB request - Error 507 (12 times)

All is for the same serial number device

In many cases they do seem to be so I won't really argue with you there.

I looked into this a bit more. First of all there seem to be hardly a handful of mentions of this issue online. Besides

http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php?topic=373921.0. So either this isn't a widespread problem, or else very few people have bothered to look at the relevant event logs.

I also took a look at the logs of all the Win10 systems at hand. Strangely none of the laptops upgraded from XP/Vista/Win7/8/8.1 to Win10 had any card reader related errors at all! Only on a single system did I find the StorDiag 504/507 errors in question,
and that too due to an HP USB stick apparently:





For what it's worth, even if I had many more of these errors show up due to a card reader I'd probably just ignore them. Sure, it would be good if MS got off its *** and fixed the bug (if indeed it is one), but meanwhile the events don't affect me in any
way whatsoever so why would I worry about them unnecessarily?

Well, your solution like a “Bypass” sounds good, but it is not a fix really. Since I will need to buy another SD card reader or so.



I don’t think the problem are in sd card reader device, because I got two installed on my PC with same problem.



As I said it appear to be Drivers issues...



For example: if I see in “management drives” .... it shows “Disco 2”, “Disco 3”, “Disco 4” and “Disco 5” like if those were disks drives, but really are “empties sd/usb card reader devices”.



So, in my opinion the OS is virtualizing these devices as what they are not.



Back to the original post, the ID Event 504/507 is related with I said.



Think about this “Completing a failed non-ReadWrite SCSI SRB request”, I think the OS is requesting an answer from “disk drive” but devices not responce because it is just an empty sd/usb card reader.



Conclussion, I am not looking for guilty but solutions.



Another “Bypass” if event’s error concerns you, just disable StorDiag error's event report. But not for me.



Please, take a look inside this and advice me anything you find.
