I was playing a game on my laptop and suddenly, after closing it, the laptop restarted out of nowhere. No bluescreen or anything. Then it proceeded to restart 2 times after that, and it only stopped when i shut it down normally. In event viewer i found many errors relating to "DistributedCOM" with and event id of 10010. Copying large amount of files/folders between external drives fails. Corrupted file system index structure. Index attribute is ":$130:$INDEX_ROOT".

Source drive health report indicated something might be going up

Robocopy Folders/Files from source drive to target drive failed. filename linkage errors.

Reformatted target drive (NTFS) (deep format)

Used Windows explorer to manually move small batches of folders/files at a time. Checked the copied files were good. Deleted copied files from source drive. (Repeated this process a couple of times with no issues.)

The copy process fails during my next batch copy.

I try to view the target drive and am unable to access the drive using Explorer or PowerShell 7.

I ran chkdsk on the target drive several times. Chkdsk would stop when checking filename linkage.

The event error raised is:

A corruption was discovered in the file system structure on volume P:.

A corruption was found in a file system index structure. The file reference number is 0x5000000000005. The name of the file is "<unable to determine file name>". The corrupted index attribute is ":$I30:$INDEX_ROOT". The corrupted index block is located at Vcn 0xffffffffffffffff, Lcn 0xffffffffffffffff. The corruption begins at offset 128 within the index block.

Since I was deleting files as I moved them from the source drive, and I have no access to any files on the target drive, I will lose a great deal of data if the target drive index structure file can not be repaired or I find a process for recovering the data.

 

Corrupted file RAR

If the archive has been created using WinRAR, why don't you try WinRAR itself? It has a built-in repair feature for repairing corrupted archive (ZIP as well as RAR). Follow the steps given below:

• Open WinRAR application in your system.
• Now click on File tab > Open or simply press Ctrl+O.
• A small window "Find Archive" will pop up. Locate the corrupt RAR archive from your system directory and select it.
• Now click Open button.
• Click Tools tab > Repair archive or simply press Alt+R.
• Again a small window "Repairing File name.rar" will pop up.
• Now click Browse to select a location to save the repaired archive.
• Check the box "Treat the corrupt archive as RAR" and click OK.
• WinRAR will start repairing of corrupt RAR archive. Once it gets completed click Close.

I hope the above steps will help you repair the corrupted RAR archive.

Error in event viewer

Hi

I keep geting the following in the Event viewer ,
The description for Event ID (4) in source ( SuperProServer ) cannot be found . the local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display message from a remote computer . You may be able to use /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description . The following information is part of the event, The event log file is corrupt .

has anyone any ideas has to what this means .
