Windows 10: Event Viewer and Disk Management Give Conflicting Details Regarding Drive Health

I've experienced multiple external USB drive backup failures recently many were 10+ years old so I've started paying more attention to disk health.I've noticed that Event Viewer and Disk Management don't always agree with each other in terms of disk health. For instance, I received the below error messages in Event Viewer for one of the drives today. However, when I check Disk Management, the drive in question shows "Healthy Partition". Now I'm confused...is it healthy or do I need to run a Full Check Disk as Event Viewer suggests?Level Date and Time Source Event ID Task CategoryError 7/3

I suggest you re-install the video driver. I'll add a few words of explanation about Event viewer in a moment. They won't affect the need to reinstall that driver as your first step. Denis

 

Disk Management

Hi Keith,

Thanks for providing the detail that was requested previously. Since the disk management screen that you saw is showing greyed out options, we suggest that you follow the steps below to change the partition type of your internal drive:

• Open Disk Management then right click the partition on the disk you want to covert and select Delete Volume.
• Once you complete the process you will see the whole disk shown as two separate unallocated spaces. Right-click the disk and select Convert to GPT disk.

After the conversion, you will be able to use the whole disk and then you can create new separate partitions.

Event Viewer Disk Degrade

when I look at Event Viewer there is a certain error that concerns me...

Disk is starting to degrade. New SMART event detected.

why would my drive be degrading if this is a new pc?
