Windows 10: Ever since Windows 10, version 2004 I have had to constantly enter passwords for email...

Ever since Windows 10, version 2004 I have had two problems occur that seem to be related. In Outlook Home and Business 2019 I use Google IMAP. Since version 2004 I have had to enter my email passwords for each account almost daily. Also, I am being asked to enter network credentials to access WHS.


Password protected sharing is OFF. Homegroup was removed in 1803 so that solution is invalid.


1. Deleting Generic Credentials does not appear to be a fix.

2. Turning off credential manager fixes the server access issue but renders Outlook unusable - constantly asks for passwords.

3. In User Accounts, unchecking Users must enter a user name and password and rebooting and re-checking Users must enter a user name and password and rebooting temporarily fixed the problem for about 3 days.


Any solutions not mentioned above would be appreciated.

Thank you for posting to the forum regarding your email question. I can certainly see how being required to enter your password every time you access your email would be a bit cumbersome.



As you have mentioned a recent change to the email protocol being used, i would first suggest you remove and reenter the account on the phone. This article can be used as a guide to add the account,

http://www.windowsphone.com/en-US/How-to/wp7/people/set-up-an-email-account. I would suggest following the steps for adding an account manually. Once you have added the account back to the phone, please reboot the phone and try accessing your email again.



If the issue continues, provide the following details:

• What is the current OS version running on your phone, tap settings > about > more info.?
• What type of email account is this, an Outlook Exchange, local Outlook, other email account (specify the domain)?
• Who is your ISP?
• When you go to settings > emails + accounts > do you see any error messages or codes next to the email account?

Email clients not remembering passwords

Hi all

A friends computer will not remember his gmail password. He used to use outlook, and seeing that I use thunderbird and it would be easier to troubleshoot I installed that for him. Now that was working for a few weeks, and now the same problem is occuring.

We are 100% sure the password is correct, as we can access the email account through webmail, but the local clients will not remember the correct password. Of course the 'Remember password' button is checked, but still no good.

It returns with incorrect password.

Any suggestions?

 

Getting prompts to enter password in Windows Mail app

• May I know who the Email Service provider is?
  
• Are you able to login to the email account through your favorite web-browser?
  
• What happens when you enter password?
  

In the meantime, please follow the steps mentioned below:

Method 1: Reconfiguring the account

I suggest you to remove the account from the Windows 10 mail app and configure it again. Please follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Open Windows Mail app by searching it from the
   Start menu.
   
2. At the bottom of the left navigation pane, click on
   Settings (Gear icon).
   
3. Select Manage accounts.
   
4. Click on the account and select Delete account from this device.
   
5. On the confirmation page, select Delete.
   
6. After deleting the account follow the steps from the article
   
   Set up email in the Mail app for Windows 10 to add the email account.
   

Method 2: Resetting password

You can try resetting the password for the email account and check if that helps. To reset the password login to the website of the email provider in any browser and change the password.
