Windows 10: Every Chrome-Based Browser Lags for a Few Seconds...Driving Me Nuts

Ok so...first week as a Windows PC owner [been on Macs for 14 years]. Everything is going smoothly enough, except this one nagging issue.

Everything that runs Chromium browsers [so for me, this has been Chrome, Edge, Slack, Steam] lags when I load a new page. Not always, but quite frequently. If I speedtest, the lag is not reflected in the ping [6ms on average] or the downspeed [around 350mbps over Wifi], so it's happening on the system at some point. At first, I thought this was a Windows-wide issue, as my Macbook Pro is in the same spot as the PC and doesn't experience this.

But then...I downloaded Firefox and I do not have the issue at all. Never once. This is how I figured out that the connective thread was Chromium, but also where I've hit a wall. I'm not fluent enough in Windows's behind-the-scenes to know how to troubleshoot further and could really use the help.

Has anyone else dealt with this? I have done all the simple user facing things that come up when you google something as generic as "Why is Chrome so slow?", so cleared out cache, changed DNS settings, shut off automatic proxy settings in Windows, etc. Please let me know what data I can share about my setup that might help with this. Appreciate it!

Opening Firefox/ browser/Discord etc internet lag about 5-6 seconds

RE: Firefox. I use this:

SpeedyFox - Boost Firefox, Skype, Chrome, Thunderbird in a Single Click!

Although as suggested there could be other factors if it happens with all internet connected apps.

You can aslo try Firefox safe mode:

• What browser are you using when you experience a lag?
• Does the lag occur in a particular game?

In the meantime, we suggest you run the System Maintenance troubleshooter. Here are the steps:

• Press Windows Key + X.
• Click on Control Panel.
• Select Troubleshooting.
• On the left pane, click on View All.
• Click on System Maintenance to run the troubleshooter.

I understand your concern regarding the issue that you are facing.

I would suggest you to try these steps to see if it resolves the issue.

• Go to Start > Settings > System.
• Choose Default apps, then scroll down to
  Web browser.
• Tap or click the browser that’s currently listed as your default, then choose Chrome from the list of apps
