    Every time a program has high disk usage, System starts using 100% disk and freezes up PC


    As title says. Every time something else uses a lot of disk, task manager shows my System using 100% of my SSD even though it only shows as around 0.1MB/s. While instlaling a game, the install will over 300+MB/s and not hit 100%, but this happens for around 5-10 seconds before my System kicks in and uses 100% with low MB/s and forces the install to stop entirely, also freezing up my PC. It can take 5 minutes to stop.This also happens sometimes while I’m playing a high usage game, or running high usage programs, but not as consistently as an install. I’ve tried every article and solution I can

    100% disk usage

    First of all, you should not run 2 virus programs. Windows Defender will protect you as good if not better than McAfee.

    I would start by uninstalling McAfee and restarting PC.

    When the disk is at 100%, what is your CPU% total at this time ???

    If it is also high, select the details tab in task manager and find the item using the high CPU%.

    SuperFetch could be the issue.

    Is windows update running during this high disk usage. Is defender scanning. Is indexer running.

    There is also many tasks scheduled in task scheduler such as maintenance that could be running on start up causing high disk usage which could last numerous minutes. The slower your PC is, the longer it will be high disk% usage.

    You can look in event viewer and see if any event coincides with the time the disk usage is high%.

    Or look in task scheduler under maintenance and other tasks and it will display the last time it ran.

    Disk usage high upto 100% on Windows 10

    Original title:- Windows 10 high disk usage

    Disbled windows search and the superfetch

    Disabled one drive.

    Done the sfc /SCANNOW

    System and compressed memory and service host: local service (network restricted) 7 causing 100% disk usage. Nothing shows under disk tab in resource monitor. Shows nothing going off the charts.

    Any suggestions or ideas?

    Basically my pc freezes and never stops until i hard reset. Always seems to happen 5-10 minutes after i restarted and logged in

    Thats a little tricky, it is not any single program or service.

    In the Task Manager, under Performance tab, the disk utilization reaches to 100% due to which system became lagging and unresponsive. It started freezing in few moments and this keeps happening until disk usage reduces from 100%.

    Control panel > Power Options > Edit Plan Settings > Change Advanced Power Settings > Processor Power Management > Maximum Processor state.

    Also, once I start Chrome 64, it uses lots of cpu and ram to do absolutely nothing.
