This seems to be a known issue that has existed for over 5 years but I do not see any solutions on the forum. Windows is set to automatically connect to every wireless signal in range and I can not deselect this option. Microsoft, please don't bother having one of your people respond as they are totally useless and don't even read the posts.

    :)

  2. Connect automatically when in range

    Hi,

There are several ways to switch off the Connect automatically when in range
option, such as through the Control Panel,
    Command Prompt
or through Settings. For us to isolate the issue, we would like to ask the following questions:

    • When was the last time that this option worked properly?
    • Have you made any changes to your computer prior to this issue?
    • What Windows version and build number do you have?
    • How did you set the Connect automatically when in range option to off? Is it through Control Panel, Command Prompt or Settings?
    • Can you provide the
      screenshot
      that you have taken?

In the meantime, you can check this methods on how to switch off the Connect automatically when in range option:

    Method 1: Through Settings.

    • Open Settings.
    • Click on Network & Internet.
    • Click on Wi-Fi on the left pane.
    • On the right pane, click on the network name.
    • Toggle the Connect automatically when in range option to off.

    Method 2: Through Control Panel.

    • Press Windows key +
      Rto open Run
    • Type ncpa.cpl, and then click on OK to open
      Network Connections window.
    • Click on the wireless network.
    • Click on the Wireless Properties button.
    • Uncheck the Connect automatically when this network is in range option.
    • Click on OK button.

    Method 3: Through Command Prompt.

    • Click on Start.
    • Type Command Prompt.
    • Right-click on the Command Prompt from the search results.
    • Select Run as Administrator.
    • Enter this command: netsh wlan show profiles
    • Press Enter, and make note of the wireless profile name that you want to disable the automatic connection.
    • Enter this command: netsh wlan show profile "name"
    • Press Enter, and see if the Connection
mode of this wireless network is currently set to Connect
      automatically or Connect
      manually.
    • Enter this command: netsh wlan set profileparameter name="name" connectionmode=manual.
    • Close the Command Prompt window.

We look forward for your response.

  3. When I click to deselect "Connect Automatically" to a wireless network, my settings are not remembered

    Hi there,

We are having problems with competing wifi at work and home.

I deselect "connect automatically" in the network list. When I re-open my network list, I see "Connect Automatically" is still selected.

I also cannot remove the offending/unwanted wifi networks under Manage Security and Settings as they do not appear in my list.

I noticed this problem both at work and at home.

    Thanks for your help.

    My most recent updates were KB4578968, KB4579311,KB4580325 , KB4576945 on Oct 13/20.

    Thanks

Windows 10: Disable automatic connection of a wireless network

    Hi,

Sorry for the delay in replying.

If you have not tried this then you may follow these steps to test if that helps:

    • Open "Network and Sharing Center".

    • On the left pane, click on the option "Manage wireless networks”.

    • Look for those networks where the Security is "Unsecured." Right-click on an unsecured network, then click on "Properties”.

    • Make sure that the box next to "Connect automatically when this network is in range," is not checked. Then click on "OK" to save your settings. Repeat the steps to uncheck the box for any other unsecured networks on the list.

Keep us informed to help you further.
